Does anyone plays Anacreon?

This game is a typical 4X game, but without so much micromanagement on the world basis but more of setting overall strategical theme and moving fleets about and setting up supply chains. It used to be a DOS game, but now there’s a Window verison. Anyone played it before? Got tops to offer?

I played the DOS version quite a bit.

How do you get a fleet to intercept an enemy fleet?

How does it compare to Spaceward Ho!?

If fleets encounter each other they attack as I recall, though that may just be the computer fleets. You can look for areas the other side frequents and park a fleet there hoping to catch him.

I never played “Spaceward, Ho!”

Only in Heaven, and usually just before sporting events.*
*yes, I know the accepted title is The Anacreontic Song

I hope the Pirates of Jakarta get your supply convoys, Mister Smart Guy.

This is the thing. I notice a fleet heading towards one of my planet and I try to intercept (hunter-killers and jumpships) but never be able to fight them. Grr…should I instead select the fleet destination?

I stationed Hunter Killer fleets in a band facing the direction the bad guys came from. It’s a hit or miss situation. You have to balance fleet size against how many sectors you can cover.

Anacreon couldn’t even conquer one little planet that had no metals and no military. WHy would I want to play a game like that?

You lost me, fella.

I am speaking, of course, of the Anacreon that fought against the titular Foundation based on Terminus. Hari Seldon would be very good at 4X games, methinks.

It’s been even longer since I read Asimov than I played Anacreon. THanks.
