Does anyone really replay games?

I replay games often enough. Final Fantasies I have replayed, especially Final Fantasy Tactics. I’ve played through and beaten it 8 times from beginning to end.
Also, another fun game to play through is Destiny of an Emperor on the original NES. I think I’ll do that tonight after work, start over on it again for fun.
Also started again on Mana Khemia via New Game+ option.
Now I have a sudden urge to replay the SNES Zelda game, Link to the Past.

Crap. I’ve gotta make a list now…

Screw Carl Johnson, once you experience the goodness (badness??) that is Niko Belic you’ll never go back to black.

I beat San Andreas and tried to get as much finished without really doing any missions, I got pretty far in the starting town, all the tags sprayed and that stuff, I did do a couple missions so I could get the invulnerable tampa to use in my quest. I burned out after a while though. its still a great game, I wonder if I still have that save lying around?

some games have a nice replay value to them but most I dont really look back on.

bah got a skype call and forgot the real game I was about to post, Civ3 I think it was, go into the map editor, find a map with a nice sized island and remove all start points but one, develop the entire island with every imaginable resource and railroads/improvements then see what kind of a beat down you can pass out…oh yeah make sure 90% of your island is goody huts…if I am feeling nice I make sure each start point has a little area all developed and with resources right around the city area

I do on occasion, but I usually only do it with cheats or if it has a “free play” mode for modern games (commentary and other races excluded of course). Part of my playstyle is I always put everything on the hardest difficulty the first time 'round, this is partially because I know I won’t replay it and on occasion the higher difficulty has cooler items or extended credits or unlockable items or something (especially with the advent of achievements, more gamer points). This is kind of an effect AND a cause though (as I have nothing to challenge myself with afterwards).

I replay older games a lot since they tend to be shorter (I was surprised at how short Sonic 3 and Knuckles REALLY is, it must have taken me a year playing it on and off as a kid to get 100% completion for all characters, I did it in a week earlier this month).

Oddly enough I tend to play linear RPGs with New Game Plusses on occasion, but only if I really, really liked it. This is because I’m not big on grinding so I don’t always get to see ultimate moves, though I am very, very big on finding missable objects and other collectibles the first time around. This is to the point that I’ve resorted to guides and skimming them, without reading any strategy or how to get anything, just seeing how many new weapons/armor are in an area. And, of course, I WILL “cheat” for some of the more esoteric ones, there were some summons and djinn in Golden Sun I’m fairly certain were unfindable unless you were REALLY lucky or had a guide due to the fact that they were random encounters only found in large overworld map forests you never even get close to in the main game. Though I personally don’t consider resorting to guides to find things that are hidden that stupidly “cheating” personally, your opinions may differ.

Oh, and the Chao garden in Sonic Adventure (DX and 2: Battle)… that occupied me for years, for some reason.

(Post Script, I don’t consider playing scenario/random maps or online in games live Civ and Warcraft replay personally, but I definitely do that, in fact I still play custom maps on WCIII surprisingly often).

I’ve played Earthbound for the SNES at least 10 times through, and Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening at least four. RPGs I’ll play through usually at least twice, action games just once. I replay games to save money, as I don’t really have the scratch to be buying new games constantly.

I think this might encourage me to replay Half Life 1…

It’s been exactly 9 years, but I just brushed off my PS1 and am going to do a second playthrough of Final Fantasy 8. I found a nice guide to help me handle that stupid GF/draw system…I can barely remember the storyline, but I remember LOVING it enough to overlook the incredibly lame battle/character development system.

Final Fantasy 4, Zelda 1 & 3, most of the older Mega Mans and Castlevanias and some other old favorites get replayed on a regular basis.
