I am trying to find an old 1980s DOS-based video game that involved you being the commander of a battleship. You could choose to be an escort, or a blockade runner, or what-have-you. You switched between locations on the ship, executing attacks, steering the ship, evaluating damage, and all that. Enemy ships would appear on radar, and then on the horizon, enemy planes would fly in and strafe the ship while you went topside to shoot them down with machine guns. Almost nothing in the game was full motion - for the most part, the screen was a view of a console, so it was a very information-based game. You changed locations by selecting a new place to be and pop! you would appear there. The ships on the horizon, the attacking planes, your gun’s crosshairs, the radar screen - those elements were real-time motion, but not the highest frame rate.
After an enemy attack, you would recieve reports on damage from various parts of the ship, and you could go to those places on the ship to see the damage. For instance, at the radar station, the radar screen would be blacked out until the crew had time to make repairs.
It was probably 16-color IBM graphics. Strictly keyboard based but, like some of the true classics from back then, it was still addictive despite its technical shortcomings. If you know what it was called, tell me - I can’t remember!!! Thanks…
