Okay, I think this came was called Carrier or something like that, but I really want to get more info on it and find out if any abandonware sites might have it.
The game’s premise was that you controlled a Carrier - a ship capable of carrying up to four planes and four amphibious tanks. You used your units to take over islands in a little archipelago and construct factories on them that would make spare tanks and planes for you.
You could set up split-screen views to simultaneously see what up to four of your planes/tanks were currently seeing. The planes and tanks all had autopilots you could set.
Your opposition was another carrier with the same capabilities.
You could kit out the planes and tanks, I think, with different mission packages, like recon, bombing, dogfighting, etc.
Anyone remember this? I played it on a PC, circa 1988.
You can download it from numerous abandonware websites. I’m not sure what the board policy is on abandonware (the legal status isn’t absolutely clear), so I won’t post a direct link, but you should be able to search for it.
A friend of mine runs a website called dosgames that has a lot of old DOS abandonware that you can give a shot too. (It shouldn’t be tough to figure out the URL.)
Not to hijack the thread, but here is another game I’m trying to find that I have no clue what the name is. It’s an old Apple game. You operate a LST and ferry groups of troops from the ships off shore to the beach, trying to avoid getting your LST sunk. Any ideas?
