I love to read the usnet group about Bangladesh. It seems the Bangladeshis(??) hate and yell about India EXCEPT when referring to Pakistan. I take it they look as India as their defender?

“Love” and “hate” can be applied only to people. never to inanimate categories.
The answer is YES, And vice versa.
India and Pakistan gained their independence in 1947. At that time, Bangladesh was part of Pakistan, though unconnected physically with the rest of the country. Bangladesh gained its independence from Pakistan after a civil war in 1971. Toward the end of the civil war, India invaded Bangladesh and briefly occupied it.
The people of Bangladesh are religiously mostly Muslim and ethnically mostly Bengalis. I believe India is their biggest trading partner.
India did not invade Bangladesh towards the end of the civil war. Bangladesh was already occupied by the Pakistani army, and the Indian army helped Bangladesh gain independence by defeating the Pakistani army in Bangladesh.
I really don’t think Bangladeshis hate India. That’s a bit of a generalisation, don’t you think? Maybe a few of them do, and you stumbled upon their newsgroup.

What I was meant was clearly Pakistan and India are enemies. In terms of foreign policy it seems Banladesh also does not like India except if Pakistan also feels the same way. Then it reverses itself and sides with India.
