Has anyone noticed that white people have almost been phased out on MTV?
They’ve fled to the suburbs of USA and the Lifetime networks.
MTV Networks is a Viacom property. BET is a rarity in broadcasting: an independently-owned cable channel.
Juck, What is it with you and Black people today? Link :dubious:
ETA: MOL, ninja’d me!
just curious. Every day I have new questions about life. today its race.
I noticed it in the early 1990s. But it’s OK, we still have VH1. (I think. Let me check real quick.)
What the… Love and Hip Hop? Black Ink Crew? Basketball Wives? What is this shit? Last time I watched VH1 it was all Rod Stewart and Kenny fuckin’ G!
Okay, we need to march.
They even used to run this program called VH1 Soul. Soul? I dunno, sounds kinda ethnic.
Viacom also owns BET.
“Just asking questions” right?
You’re right; looks like they were acquired back in 2001. I really need to get with the times.
Worst question ever? Or just in the top 10?
Well, since MTV stands for Minimizing whitTy’s Visibility and Viacom stands for Vanquish Instantly All White Overlord Mutha’s, I’m hardly surprised.
Ice-T knew the score 20 years ago…
Never thought I’d see the day. I watched MTV as a teenager (remember the 80’s hair bands?) and not a black face on the channel back then, EVER.
I guess we’ll have to wait until VH1 does the obligatory countdown special. fingers crossed
Well, there was J. J. Jackson.
And Michael Jackson. And Prince. And Morris Day. And Lionel Richie. And Rockwell. And Eddy Grant. And Whitney Houston. And Ray Parker, Jr. And Chaka Khan. And Tina Turner. And the Pointer Sisters. And Kool & the Gang. And Billy Ocean. And Stevie Wonder. And Eddie freakin’ Murphy, for chrissake.
But yeah, not a single black face until the 1990s.
How can you say whites have been “phased out” of MTV when the Jersey Shore and Teen Mom have been their most successful programs the past few years? Yes they’ve been cancelled, but next man up? Buckwild. Come on man. White people acting badly has been MTV’s gig for years.
Now if you said VH1 I’d agree.
Little known fact: when that gets linked twice in one thread, the question becomes “Risky question:Would u date an albino woman with a full black child”
