Does Beto O'Rourke have a chance to oust Ted Cruz?

So how does a high school student become “head of a super PAC,” anyway…?

By filling the paperwork.

I’m not completely au fait with Texas politics but I was thinking he ought to rope in MJ Hegar (she of the famous “Doors” political ad) if he does a big stadium event. They seem to appeal to similar audiences and both have had significant positive national (and international) coverage.

Colbert did it on the air once, just to show how pathetically easy it is.

A “super PAC” is typically a 501(c)(4) non-profit. The IRS code specifies that its activities must primarily be non-political but it may also engage in political advocacy. It is almost the same as a 501(c)(3) (the classification of most churches, as I recall), but donations (contributions) to a 501(c)(4) are not tax-deductible for the donor – hence, donations to a super PAC do not have to be recorded by donor for cross-referencing. This makes 501(c)(4)s popular with parties that want to participate anonymously, like corporations and billionaires who want to be able to discreetly shovel trainloads of money toward some cause.

The Republicans are getting ready, putting options in place. Started with that crap about some people along the border not being real citizens who don’t legitimately deserve passports. Or voting rights. Sure hope you didn’t think that was really about passports…

They’ve already started, which tells you something about their level of confidence. Fake calls to drum up volunteers to drive illegal immigrants to the polls! Plan B. Pull some outrageous shit to block unfriendly voters, which will surely provoke court action. if Beto loses, no problem. If he wins, work to get it all in front of the courts.

And, of course, intimidation. Got a relative living in America, maybe you don’t want ICE to look closely at? Sure, you’re a legit citizen, but would you mind stepping over here, answering a few questions? Just a formality…

Not strictly legal? Well, let the courts decide that after they win.

Republicans all over the country play hardball, in Texas they play hand grenade. There is literally nothing they won’t do to stop Beto. And to my brothers and sisters, pals and gals, from way up here in Baja Canada…sic 'em!

You don’t think this particular piece of whimsy might need a cite or two?

Beto O’Rourke’s Senate campaign blames ‘impostor’ for texts seeking illegal-voting volunteers

Stories about the citizenship issue lie thick upon the ground, crank up your Google and enter “Texas citizenship midwife” and enjoy the deluge.

Of course, the speculation about the dastardly Texas Republicans is just that, speculation. Can’t really cite the future. Say what you will about them, they are as reliable as chiggers in the summertime.

I hate those parasitic bastards. They get under your skin in the most annoying places. They’re not much of a problem in urban areas, but the countryside is infested with them. Fucking Republicans. If only we could ward them off by dusting ourselves with powdered sulfur.

I’d gladly lose any seat the Dems have up just to see Ted go down in flames.

FWIW, CNN Politics now has Beto on its list of likely Dem nominees: There's a new No. 1 among 2020 Democrats | CNN Politics

Willie Nelson is gonna headline a Beto rally.

(You don’t know from Pancho and Lefty, that’s your own damn fault!)

Sic 'em? did we spend any time in Waco perchance?

Outside of born and raised? Not much. There was only one thing to git in Waco, and that was “git gone”.

not sure why Willie Nelson fans could not figure out he is pretty liberal.

Same kind of people who thought/think Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” is a rousing patriotic anthem.

Or Independence Day by Martina McBride.

Ditto “American Woman”.
