Does Beto O'Rourke have a chance to oust Ted Cruz?

Cruz inspires strong love and hate alike. Cornyn is as bland as white bread and nobody really cares either way.

So Cruz is simultaneously the more-beloved and hated of the two.

Is there a dynamic where the hate drives the love? In a case where he has a fan base, the strong opposition would strengthen his support, on the basis of fuck you, I think he’s the bees knees. Kind of like the good old “no such think as bad publicity” effect.
