It does if you’re an air traffic controller.
I’d say it does, Badtz. Please tell me this is a hypothetical question?
I think the fact that you’re asking indicates you may think it’s a problem.
Perhaps you better take a serious look at yourself and figure out what’s going on.
We’re here if you want to talk.
I think it does, but it depends if you were say working the night shift and coming home in the morning and drinking than i guess it would be okay otherwise i think its not such a good thing to be drinking when you wake up.
Yes! A bad problem. One should only have a single malt and it should be neat.
no ice, no soda

I think it’d depend on the situation. I mean, if, hypothetically, there was nothing else in the house to drink, and the water was broken–well, no. But, otherwise, it might be.
And, well…if you have to ask about it, it more-than-likely is…unless you don’t know the whole story.
Sometimes I used to tumble out of bed (after regaining consciousness as opposed to waking up) with my head spinning. I’d check the fridge, and if to my delight there was still beer left, I’d drink it. Before work. And I thought that enough mouthwash and gum would cover up the smell. I was wrong about that, and many other things.
I call that insanity.
- scott evil, now happily sober 4+ months
Is that the only drink in the whole day, or just the first?
Well, it depends. But by and large, in our culture, a person who drinks alcohol at breakfast with any regularity is more likely than not to be an alcoholic.

Yeah, a morning drink can help calm the jitters and shakes.
Thing is, if you have the shakes to begin with, you probably drink too much, too often.
I used to just take large amounts of Klonopin.
congrats on getting sober, Scott. ODAAT!
I should add, I’d take tranquilizers in the morning whether I was drinking or not. Nice combo.
Friggin’ A
QtM: where have you been? Actually, I just don’t post about it as much as I did in the beginning. This is my second time around. I was sober in the program for a little under three years, then went out for three hellish years. I made it back to the rooms last November.
Keep coming back!
I don’t drink very often anymore, rarely enough to get more than a little loose. I got up today, and was thirsty, and the only thing that looked good in the kitchen was a scotch and soda (choices included milk and diet orange soda). It wasn’t very strong (two shots) and probably over-diluted, but it hit the spot. I did feel the alcohol’s effects, which is unusual for me with such a small amount (I weigh app. 320 lbs).
Well, if you drank it on an empty or almost-empty stomach, it certainly would have a more powerful effect.
But hey, be careful, will ya? IANA ex-alcoholic, but I know a number of them. Don’t go down that road too often.
It’s OK to have a Scotch & Soda for breakfast…if right after breakfast you’re scheduled to go in front of a firing squad.
It depends…
if the person usually has a normal breakfast, and one day thinks “I wonder what it would be like to have scotch & soda for breakfast.” Possibly not.
if it’s a daily breakfast, and the person thinks it’s necessary to get through the morning, possibly so.
I’d say it’s worth examining the motive and surrounding behavior in any case.
I don’t understand the stigma against morning drinks. I wake up to vodka and toast with some regularity, and IANA raging alcoholic.
