When I was preparing to do my Psych rotation in nursing school, I was terrified of the patients. To make matters worse, I was assigned to the Aggressive Men’s Floor of a run down scary hospital in one of the worst west side neighborhoods in Chicago, known for rampant crime and drug abuse (the neighborhood, not the hospital).
When I was done with the rotation, I had a new appreciation for the plight of the homeless-and-maybe-a-little-mentally-off men in my city…and I was terrified of the Psych nurses.
Wow, imagination much? Been in a psych ward lately? We have magic wands that wisp away all your troubles.
Acute psychiatric care is modeled to provide a safe environment in a short term crisis. We ARE NOT designed to provide any long term solutions to psychiatric illness. I’m not getting into it, you can research it. We provide treatment for acute crises and refer to outpatient modalities. That is an established rule.
Furthermore, this is a client I experienced years ago and I’m still looking for real answers. That is out of pure compassion and my commitment to never undermine any possible factors in our diagnostic outcomes. I find it cruel to suggest that my practice is anything less than sincere. While people are hammering away at the inequities in psychiatric care I’m screaming about them, yet somehow I’m the crux of social injustice. NICE.
I apologize first off for being defensive. I do understand why you found it unacceptable, what I really wanted to say was that I’m different. I’m not working in the hospital setting any longer because of changes that took place when the hospitals started looking at their financial (cough, greed) profiles and things got worse and not better. How I’d love for that to change - it has been an extreme battle of wills and the advocates are losing due to the financial aspects. There are those of us who do want to provide adequate, feasible and viable care for those with mental illness. We look forward, not away.
People dismiss it because of a. the fact, per your link, that it has all but disappeared, and b. there is no evidence of it occurring in the last jillion years, Temple of Set especially, and c. all of the ritual murders were done with before any of them/us were born, in places that we have never heard of or seen, and besides that, there weren’t that many even when they were done. It is a non-issue, so, people don’t make an issue of it.
Basically, the same reason people don’t debate the merits of a Model T over a Model A…anymore. Or, perhaps more accurately, the merits of a 54 Lada over a 55 Lada.
Considering all that we know about the mythology of satanic groups that gather to do evil deeds in the name of Satan, it seems like you’re not looking for real answers-you’re looking until you find the answers you already think are the truth.
