I recently heard a rumor that smoking marijuana often leads to some sort of red eye syndrome. Could this possibly be true? If it is true, what causes this phenomenon?
Thank You

Pot makes the blood vessels in the eye expand causing “red-eye”, which looks like bloodshot eyes. It affects different smokers to different degrees. Some people don’t get red-eye at all, some end up looking like little weasles. It is only a temporary effect.
I may be of some help, for a change…A VERY close personal friend o’ mine has been ingesting pot in the form of brownies or some other confection for the last 20 yrears on a regular basis. (1 brownie a night …a batch of them made up of one half of an ounce) After a period of about 7 years, she noticed that certain mucosa were irritated and red also on a regular basis, her eyes in particular. She consulted her doctor and he was quite blase about it, saying that it was probably a histamine reaction to the potsky, (it is a weed, you know ) and not to worry as many people have long term allergic reactions of this type and it is not a dangerous condition.
Personally, I don’t think that any irritative reaction is healthy, but sometimes, one overlooks certain side effects when a drug is accomplishing other ‘therepeutic’ agendas.
the fact that one is smoking rathjer than eating the dope may or may not make any difference, I don’t know. But it seems possible that it could effect another person the same way, depending on how much, how often, quality, etc.
