Does Michael Stipe sing for Progressive Insurance?

At the end of the TV commercial for Progressive car insurance, someone who sounds a lot like Michael Stipe from R.E.M. sings: “This is how life should be”. He sings it like: “Thiiiiiiiiis is howwwwww liiiiiiiiiiife should beeeeeeeeee”. Was an obscure R.E.M. song used for this commercial, or is it an imitator?

According to this, the song is “This Is How Life Should Be,” by Groove Terminator.

I thought the voice sounded much more like Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, actually. Thanks for the link!

If it were the 1980s-era Stipe singing, it would have come out as “This (mumble mumble mumble mumble mumble) beeeeeeeeee!”

There’s some motel commercial that sounds - as much as such a thing as possible - like Stipe singing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” I’m sure it’s not him. Perhaps some ad execs are REM fans?

Sounds more like a Billy Corgan wannbe to me.

Groove Terminator is a DJ who got his start in the early 90s. I’m not all that familiar with all of REM’s material, but that titular chorus sure sounds like a Michael Stipe sample played with a heavy flange/reverb. I’m looking now to see if I can find an REM song it was sampled from.

Interestingly, at to me, is the fact the Progressive Insurance is headed by Peter Lewis - a major league George-Soros type liberal and source of millions for MoveOn.org type establishments.

So, having never seen the commercial, first thing that crossed my mind was that it didn’t sound impossible.

What Snooooooooooooooopy said. [mmmmmpphh!!] t-heehee
