Can any R.E.M. fans here settle an argument? You know that spoken-word stream of consciousness bit in the middle of Orange Crush, amid all the army and helicopter-type sounds:
Is that sampled from somewhere, or is it Michael Stipe talking? And if it is sampled, does anyone know where from? Googling has been inconclusive.
If it isn’t Stipe talking, it sure sounds like him. I always assumed it was.

According to Murmurs.com it is Stipe.
The funny thing is, I just read an article about this (was it in the Sept 04 edition of Uncut possibly?) that that was him.
