And if so, all games, or just certain ones? I’m not really a player but have a chance to buy a 360 for a good price, but its not worth it if the newer big selling games still get made for the regular one- thanks.
Production of new titles for the original XBox has been winding down ever since the 360 debuted in 2005. Only a handful of new titles were released last year and none since August. There probably won’t be any more new titles coming out for the XBox.
Many thanks.
Part of the issue is that, unlike the PS2, MS stopped producing new Xbox machines when it began selling the 360.
Sony was still making the original PS1 until a couple of years ago, and has just in the last couple of months released a new version of the PS2 in Japan. And that machine is still outselling the PS3 in many (most?) places.
So if the hardware is available, and selling, then software manufacturers will make games for it. If there’s no new hardware, and no possibility of the market growing, there’s little incentive for developers to make new games for it. I’d suggest that anything new that comes out now would be shovelware like “Pony Princess 48”, or “1001 more card games that all look a lot like variations on solitaire”.
There was only a handful of overlap. The 360 can do a lot the previous box couldn’t, so many new games only came out for the 360. Some duplication – like sports games that can run on both, with enhancements for the new console – but as others have stated, it’s pretty much discarded technology at this point.
