Lots of presidential candidates have government jobs which pay pretty well, senators and such. Others are independently wealthy from past business success, like Romney, or have cashed in on their fame from previous jobs to make big bucks, like Giuliani. Which brings me to Mike Huckabee. He was a pastor and head of the Baptist denomination in Arkansas. Then he was governor of Arkansas for a few years, which paid $24,000 a year. Now he’s running for president. What’s he living on?
A prayer?
He has authored several books, though none of them are mega-bestsellers as far as I know. Still, they probably provide a trickle of income.
According to Wikipedia, he’s authored a few books. That may help bring in some cash.
Damn you, friedo.
Maybe he’s got his six string in hock as well.
I was aware of a book or two, but it appears that he has written six or so. I don’t know much about income for authors, but I suspect that these books have not produced much income for him, at least not enough to live on.
When he was lieutenant governor of Arkansas, he founded a corporation which raised money through donations and then paid Huckabee for making speeches. I wonder if he has something like that going on now? Can candidates pay themselves a salary out of campaign contributions?
OK, well perhaps not because this says that he has no liabilities. He seems to be making most of his money by honararia, speechs that is. His book royalties and retirement account are rather modest.
Could be. I think he’s a bass player.
Wow, thanks, that link pretty much answers my question. The book money is better than I expected, and the governor’s salary was way more than I had read. I see now from this site that Arkansas now pays $80,848.
And that’s a very nice Tobias bass he plays, too.
Why does he need income? He has Chuck Norris in his corner!
Where do you get that salary figure from? According to this cite, the Arkansas Governor’s salary as of 2002 was over $71,000.
It appears that he might be deriving a significant portion of his income from his Target wedding registry
