Does my Blog Suck?

My hot-linking seems to be failing. My blog is here:

http://my.telegraph.co.uk/Paul_in_Saudi/

Why do I get so few comments? Is anyone reading me at all? Does the subject (or the execution) just suck? When I click on a random blog hosted on this site, I see a lively exchange of ideas, often using the word 'DooD!"

I think it is an interesting and somewhat unique subject. Am I wrong? Would it help to move to another host?

I don’t think your blog sucks at all! however, I don’t think a list of obituary posts is particularly inspiring to discussion. it’s not as if you’re opining big ideas that people would strongly agree or disagree with.

What Nightrabbit said. I’ve a blog and the number of comments over the past 2 years and more is still in the single digits. But I don’t post on subjects sufficiently controversially to create a discussion. As you may note from my posts here, I’m not the most expressive person.

Yea, while there are a few exceptions, its hard to say much about an obituary other then “gee, that’s sad”, or “he was a great guy”, etc.

(also that page loads kinda slow for me for some reason, and since I have to load each obituary to read it, its sort of annoying, might be on my end though)

ETA: that said, I like the concept. It seems like the sort of thing that might be fun to have on an RSS feed, a “daily obit” to go with peoples “word-a-day” and “quote-a-day”, with a short biographical bit of someone who died recently whose not so obscure as to be uninteresting, but obscure enough that most people wouldn’t have heard of them.

What this blog needs is more parrot!

All kidding aside, Onan is a great conversation piece. By the way, the clickable link on the right says “African Gary” instead of “African Gray”. “Animals and Pets” might get more comments if you elaborated on that portion of the blog.

Do you comment on other people’s blogs? Do you have the ability to add Digg or other social bookmarking links to your posts? Do you at least Digg/social bookmark your own posts? Do you do anything to promote your blog or get it on listings or search engines?

There are a bazillion blogs on the Web. It actually takes a lot of work to get people to come to them and read them and everyone is fighting for readers. They’re all doing the above, and more.

I occasionally write for a group blog and I know our admin does a ton of stuff to promote it, and we still get less comments than you (our content is mostly crap), so you’re not doing THAT bad.

But you do have unique and well-written content so you’re part of the way there. You need to promote your blog and not just hope that people come to you.

You should check out www.lifeinlegacy.com.

I think a blog chronicling everyday life in Saudi Arabia would be much more interesting than a dry list of news stories.

Thank you all. My internet is suffer from vapor-lock, so I was unable to thank you before this.

I suppose I am mostly writing for my own pleasure.

“African Gary” would make a great name on SDMB, or for a band.
