It’s fine for playing CounterStrike. Noone cares dude.

should you change it?, yes.

I like it.
It looks like the Rosetta Stone for English to Fart translations.
Course, in my book that’s a good thing.
Welcome!
Hope you don’t mind if we call you DeepFried, rather than «Ðëëp¤F®ïêd»™.
It’s slightly irritating, but egh. Everyone’s slightly irritating once in a while.
As for everyone who assumes our new friend is an immature idiot for having a screen name out of the ordinary, isn’t this exactly what that whole “fighting ignorance” thing is about, albeit in a less-than-cosmic situation?
Of course I don’t mind. I wouldn’t expect anyone to bother with cutting and pasting or whatever…I just thought it looked cool when my neice sent it to me (I am one proud uncle.)
After checking out all of your comments I see that there seems to be no real problem with it in general even though some have expressed a dislike to it aesthetically. I do find it puzzlesome that some have said that they have formed opinions of me based solely on the “look” of my user name. To the extent that they would just ignore a post from me. That seems somewhat silly. I could understand if my user name was “big dumbfuck” or “littledweeb12” or something, and even then shouldn’t ones opinions of me be based on the content of my posts and opinions and such rather than just how I “appear”?
I did some thinking last night and decided that I would keep it as is and I hope to be respected (or disrespected, as the situation merits) while amongst you good people.
That being said, thank you to all who have participated in my poll and for your forthrightness.
P.S.- I am 31, and, yes, I too remember the use of such fonts or characters by the goober kids looking to be cool but that is far from who I am or how I hope to present myself here. Thanks!
My reaction:
Initially annoyed. The use of special characters definitely lumps you in with the under-20 “leet”-speakers, and (unfairly) predisposes me to think of you as immature.
Shortly thereafter, mildly impressed. It is a clever assemblage of symbols.
And subsequently annoyed again, up to the current time.
However, I will say that your tone in this thread is remarkably civilized, and I am hugely impressed that you’d be open to this sort of input. I also think it’s vaguely cute that you, as a proud uncle, are using a screen name created by your niece.
So now I don’t know what to think.
However, if I ever need to quote you in another thread, I’ll be damned if I call you anything but DeepFried.
It must be a bitch to type.
This has gotta be one instance where the username is more difficult than the password
And since I had the time, I counted the votes… and here’s my interpretation of the voters intentions:
Change it : 16 votes.
Keep it : 16 votes.
Hanging chads: 4.
What a dork : 1 vote
So, now that we’ve amicably settled that you shall keep your name, we demand to know «Ðëëp¤F®ïêd»™ what ? You do aspire to a second term in office, don’t you?
Vote «Ðëëp¤F®ïêd»™… brought to you by McDonald’s Potato Wedges!
Congratulations on keeping it.
Sorry, I was so busy nitpicking your choice of words that I forgot to vote. After careful consideration my opinion is “eh, whatever”. It’s not a name I would have chosen, but it doesn’t bother me. (And I didn’t think you “looked like” a teenager, either.)
Where did I get counted? I was politely saying “What the hell is your justification for having such a stupid name?”
uhhhh…I think perhaps DeepFried :: drum roll :: ZUCCHINI!!
heh heh
For me, getting someone’s name wrong is at best embarrassing and at worst offensive, I’ve learned. So nowadays, I always cut and paste everyone’s username except my own, even if they’re as simple as zut. So, cutting and pasting it certainly doesn’t bother me. And if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t go through the trouble of getting someone’s name right, then what do you care?
I say keep it. I’m easy to please in instances like this and think it looks A-OK. Oh, & Welcome.
I vote change it. Like others, I just find it annoying.
In addition to that, I have another problem with it that others probably don’t. I use a cookie filtering package that uses Microsoft’s .NET software. For some reason, this results in filtering out all non-English characters. So your name first appeared as pFd. (If I want to see a page with a lot of non-English characters, I temporarily disable the cookie filter or use Netscape!)
At least it’s not like the user who had a name entirely of a cat face, and there is iamthewalrus who has a cute addition to their name…
I thought it looked nice, actually. Of all those kinds of weirdo combination names, it was the most appealing and readable I’d seen.
Hey, it looks just fine on my computer here, and this is generally an old piece of junk.
I don’t find the appearance of the name annoying, and it is cute that you’re using the name your neice designed for you.
So welcome to the boards!
F_X
I wouldn’t have known what it said if others in this thread hadn’t already translated for me, and that’s a little annoying.
But your responses to the opinions expressed are lucid enough that I’ll be sure to notice your future posts as more than “Oh, that guy with the gibberish name again …”
Welcome.
