Silly question but I was wondering after a conversation with my sister. She likes to run but she says she isn’t as fast as she’d like to be. She then joked that maybe she should get rid of some of her useless organs to make her weigh less.
If an internal organ is removed, does the resulting scar tissue weigh as much as the organ? I don’t know anyone who’s ever gotten anything heavier than their tonsils removed.
Most organs will be heavier than any scar tissue that might be left behind (it’s a size thing as the scar tissue will be made from the remnants of the connective tissue to the organs you’re removing). However, that doesn’t account for any clamps or scapels that the surgeons might leave behind.
OTOH your liver might grow back if they don’t remove all of it and you might die from the anaesthetic or from infection.
PS Which useless organ was your sister thinking of removing - her brain?
