Or just me? I like to go through MPSIMS from thread to thread. I click on the oldest unread thread, and just keep clicking “Next Thread” until I’ve had enough. But lately, a lot of threads don’t appear with the “Last Thread/Next Thread” links. Sometimes they appear if I refresh, sometimes not. And intermittently, threads take a long time to load.
It’s not my server. I’m not having these problems anywhere else online, just in the SD. Is anyone else similarly afflicted?
Nope, not just you. When the server is really busy it loads like that for me and, I assume from what I’ve read around the boards, everyone. Around noon I just don’t even try because the page often times out.
The real issue here is that time is not linear. Cecil knows this better than anyone alive (mostly cos ‘we’ve’ learned next to nothing as a species about it since the dawn of………err). What actually happens when you think the board is slow is that you’re at work – or you’re on the board when you know there are better things you should be doing.
At work, life is fast with deadlines, people rushing around, always too much to do in the ‘time’ available. What is actually happening is time is more precious and intense i.e. your perception of time is different because it is different. Cecil draws this to your attention by slowing down the server so you don’t lose yourself wholly in a corporate overdrive mindset.
After work, perhaps a few drinks later, after a nice meal or a smoke and when the pressure’s off, time becomes more elastic. Cecil recognises this and speeds the board up again - not cos he’s a contrary old bugger but rather because he wants us to retain a more rounded perception of time. He’s reminding you that in a few hours ‘time’ will again become more precious by speeding the board to corporate overdrive mode in your leisure hours.
You may think this is perverse but, really, Cecil has your best interests at heart. That, and it’s the way the Internet works – (given that all else is equal) a server is a finite resource, the greater is the demand on it, the slower is the response ‘time’. You are a victim of Cecil’s, and the boards, success.
Most of the time, the board loads about as slow as s%%t running uphill in the snow.
I’ve tried getting on at different times and mornings and noon are real bad. I go to answer a post, click in the reply button, then go have a smoke, make a cup of coffee, walk around the yard, get the mail and return in time for the screen to pop up.
There are a lot of topics about the board being slow, you might try reading them cuz me & waterj spent a lot of time writing tech stuff on this issue. However, it doesn’t slow me down.
Boy is it slow today! I’ve been doing other things while I wait for the pages to load. But I only have so many bank accounts to look at in one day. Guess I’ll wait until evening, when things are supposed to get better.
