Does the Daily Show discourage voting?

I suspect that you’d be wrong. The average Daily Show viewer is 18-30 years old, a demographic group that traditionally has a very low voter turnout. I’d be willing to believe that the average Daily Show viewer is more likely to vote than others in his general age/sex/regligious demographic, but still less likely to vote than the average American.

The average Daily Show viewer is older than 30.

I thought my cite was in this thread. :smack: Here it is.

My bad. I’m not sure where I got the idea that the Daily Show audience was primarily 20-somethings.

It’s an understandable thing to assume or guess. The biggest Daily Show fans I knew were in college - the thing is, we’re still watching now that we’ve graduated. I’m trying to find some definitive numbers, but in 2004, the turnout for eligible voters under 25 was less than half, and about two-thirds of the 25-plus crowd voted.

There’s a .pdf concerning voter turnout of the under 30 crowd.

It doesn’t break it down into smaller groups than 18-29; I’d be surprised if the 25+ crowd’s turnout was 66% (or two-thirds.) The turn-out for the entire voting eligible population was around 60%; 55% for the voting age population.
