Does the kid pay? How much?

Exactly like in post 26. I should have read the thread more carefully prior to posting.

The real question is if Dinsdale will hold me responsible for personally paying the superfluous bandwidth usage.

Sounds like you handled it very well, but I do think it’s important that this is the end of the matter–no reminding her of it next time she borrows the car, or does something else stupid. She dealt with it like an adult, and so you have to respond like a peer, not a parent.

Jackasses knocked my driver’s side mirror off twice when I was living in Cambridge. First time was $150. Second time was a $9 tube of epoxy.

Shoulda only been $9 the first time, too.

Oh suck it up and pay for it. Spread a little love you cheapskate.
She’s your daughter for crying out loud.

Sounds like you handled it before you handled it. By that I mean your daughter already new what was expected of her and did the right thing so you’ve done more for her than you know.

You’re logic to have it repaired quickly was sound. The-jack-of-all-trades in me wanted her to do it to learn something new.

Judge Judy: So, who’s fault is it that the mirror broke?
Defendant: …but it was too hard to back out.
Judge Judy: So…who’s fault is it that the mirror broke?
Defendant: …they shouldn’t have parked like that.
Judge Judy: So who’s fault is it that the mirror broke?!
Defendant: Mine, your honor.
Judge Judy: Judgment for the Plaintiff, $300. Case closed.

I would agree with this 100%
You did a good job of raising your daughter IMHO
