Does the SDMB time out with inactivity?

If so, what is that time limit?

I have my cookies set to log me in automatically.* I logged in this morning and was perusing the GQ threads when, in the middle of reading a thread, I got called away for a meeting.

When I got back to my computer (about half an hour later) my browser was still open to the thread I had been reading. I finished reading the thread and hit the Back button to return to the GQ forum’s list of threads. I noticed that all threads had been marked as no new posts, the hyperlink colors had all defaulted to unread/unaccessed, and the time displayed as GMT (I have mine set to EST).

“Oh well,” I thought, as I went on to the next thread. But as I got to the bottom of that thread, I saw below the Quick Reply box that I was no longer li’l ol’ me, but that I, in fact, had become unregistered .

I assume this is because my session timed out due to inactivity. But I’ve never seen any info on SDMB timing out. If this is mentioned somewhere in the FAQ, can you please supply me with a direct link, as I was not able to find it. Also, when it times out, why did I not get some sort of message alerting me that I had been timed out when I clicked the Back button to return to the GQ forum?

*I know that I was logged in automatically this morning, because I had posted to a couple of threads before being called away from my computer.

Arnold has a sticky posted on this subject. I’ll just add that I’m always logged in at work, but at home I’ll find often myself unregistered when I have just posted to a thread. FWIW.

Ah. Thank you, Ringo. I had read that sticky before but forgot all about it.

(mainly because I had never experienced the problem before, so my brain refused to retain the info–now it will be forced to. Damn brain! So frickin’ finicky.)
