Can we agree that the country would be better if the south seceded again? Imagine what we could do with all the money we’d save from not giving them money, and how much we’d improve in education and healthcare.

From what people have said in previous threads, the south seems to bring this country nothing but problems. Should it secede? Would the US be better for it?

Why don't people like the south?

I have been to two states most people consider Southern. I would say they had:

• decent tasting food
• good sense of humour
• sociable and chatty (though occasionally speaking so slowly you wanted to pull the words out of their mounts)
• unpretentious
• some good music
• good table manners
• some women with extremely sexy accents

In order to prove the South has redeeming qualities, Southerners are willing to do absolutely anything except actually redeem themselves. They want to pull the “good people” routine but don’t actually want to do anything about being last in education, last in income, last in obesity, last in life expectancy…

I mean, the stats aren’t secret. Does the south have redeeming qualities? Probably. Just not money. Or knowledge. Or health.

Normally, I’d make some joke about North Carolina barbecue, which is in my opinion, the finest barbecue in the country. But this isn’t a jokey-ha-ha thread; this is just some ignorant bigotry on display. Which, in a thread about the south, is pretty damned ironic.

Barbecue is one of those religious kinds of things, and every part of the South is going to have strong opinions about it, and everyone’s opinions but theirs is held to be wrong. Not merely incorrect, but WRONG in the sense that vampires are wrong, or child molestation is wrong.

I don’t know if I’d go that far, but I definitely agree that the gerrymandering and voter suppression shenanigans obscure and confuse the actual picture of Texas’ political makeup.
