I see that my original post never made it to the board. I had seen a bit of some television show where a guy/girl couple had discussed that the third date required a kiss (how quaint?). I just wondered if those on the dating scene agreed.
I don’t think that any date shoule “require” anything. But, if by the third date I wasn’t interested in kissing a guy there wouldn’t be a fourth. Three dates is enough to know if there is any potential for a relationship of some sort.

Dear Abby (I think) said that if both parties appear to be having fun, a kiss (somewhere between a peck and a tonsillectomy) is in order on the first date. I agree with that. As for sexing? When it’s right, it’s right.
This is a rule? Why didn’t anyone ever tell me?

The “Third Date Rule”, as I know it, is simply this: You either have sex on the third date, or there won’t be a fourth. The reasoning is that, as stated above, by the third date she (this is a guy’s rule primarily) knows if she’s ever going to sleep with you. So if there’s no sex on the third date (or earlier), she is just stringing you along for free dinners and attention. So you cut your losses after that point. It essentially revolves around the idea that if she’s not comfortable having sex with you by the third date, she may never be comfortable, and therefore the potential relationship is doomed anyway.
It also prevents you from tying yourself up with one woman for months when the relationship’s not going anywhere anyway.
Now, there are of course qualifiers. The dates have to actually be “dates” for one. Meeting for lunch or coffee three days in a row doesn’t really meet the intent.
If you need to know the dating rules, there is a book out, small, cheap, its called, of course, ‘The Rules’

I’m a rapid decision maker. I know within the first two minutes of meeting a man if I’d ever be willing to sleep with him… which probably explains a few of my ‘had sex on the first date’ dates. 
Usually by the third date… I know if he’s good enough to meet my dad.

You’re supposed to wait until the third date? I’m odd in that I don’t date someone unless I’m totally crazy about them already…basically either I’m planning to sleep with the person immediately or never, ever will. That’s not to say I’m promiscuous - the last two men that I slept with I married. (Obviously these incidents were spaced several years apart.)
And yes, this is all moot now anyway since I’m well married and done dating.
