Does this electronic gizmo I want exist?

I’m hard of hearing, and too cheap to buy hearing aids. Mostly it doesn’t matter because I live alone and work from home, so my interpersonal interaction is pretty minimal. However, I take riding lessons, and I bought this device like they use for guided tours - the instructor speaks into a small mic and the transmitter sends to an even smaller receiver that has a wired earphone.

The problem is the wire sometimes gets in the way of my riding. I grab it while I’m adjusting my reins, and yank it out of my ear, that sort of thing.

I would like some sort of dongle that makes my receiver a bluetooth transmitter so I can get a wireless earpiece. Does such a thing exist?

Yep. One example of many. It plugs into a standard 3.5mm audio jack.

I can’t vouch for that particular one, but there’s a wide variety out there.

I practically live with a pair of Bluetooth earbuds in. Almost all day, either as a hearing aid or listening to podcasts/audiobooks.

Well, until battery technology catches up, it’s two pairs. One in my ears, one charging.
Before Bluetooth, I was always snagging my headphone cord on something.

That’s great! Thanks for the prompt replies. I’ll give one a try.

Run the wire inside your shirt; preferably up the back side. Also, you can use a binder clip on the neck of your shirt to hold it in place with just enough slack that you can turn your head but the whole weight of the wire isn’t tugging on the earpiece. That’s what I do when I train with music.

Damn you, Spiderman!
You and your sticky web-stuff just snatched away my prize (answer)!

Well, then I’ll simply encourage StGermain to wear a bandana or neckerchief when he’s riding and training. Not only does it give you that ol’ cowboy look, but it provides a place around the neck region where you can run the last bit of earphone wire up from your shirt.
Idea:

  1. Smartphone with BlueTooth pairing ability.
  2. Wireless (Bluetooth) earbuds [like Digs mentioned] paired to the smartphone.

Put the smartphone in a secure pocket and have the instructor call you.
Answer the call with the earbuds paired and send the call to the earbuds.
When the training session is over, hang up both phones and unpair the earbuds.

When you’re not training, you can play music files or stream music through your phone to the earbuds, giving them an additional purpose in your life.
