I have high (exceedingly high) blood pressure. My cardiologist keeps adding medications and testing me a month later with a 24-hr blood pressure monitor.
The past six 24-hr records show that my blood pressure drops well below normal at night when I’m sleeping and rockets up (175/30 at times) and down (usually in the 145/105 range) while I’m awake.
The doctor takes all of the readings, throws them in the hopper and determines an average. The average is still quite high - but my question is this: Does it make any sense to average below normal and well above normal to get an average blood pressure in this case?
Please note: I’m not asking for any medical advice here I am under a doctor’s care - it’s just this one practice of averaging that is counter intuitive for me.
