(No idea if this is the right forum; feel free to move.)
So I’m doing the vaping thing these days, and recently bought a couple of sampler packs from Five Pawns, who seem to be leading the pack so far as “super-premium” eliquids go. In a surprise to no one, they’re quite tasty.
The first one I tried was “Queenside”, a blood orange-vanilla mix. I found the blood orange part of it to be a bit overwhelming at first, but an interesting thing happened. I don’t vape a great deal, and I’ve got this juice in a fairly large volume clearomizer (a Kanger Aerotank 2). So it gets to sit around for a bit… and I find that the citrus side of the flavor has slowly but steadily retreated into the background. At this point, it’s getting rather close to being a straight creamy vanilla, with an affectionate glance across the room at a bowl of blood oranges–there’s a memory of citrus in the flavor, but not much more.
Just curious if this is something others have run into, either with other manufacturers or with 5P specifically. In this particular case I’ve found the maturation (for lack of a better term) to be a positive, but I’d hate to have my favorite flavor component of a particular e-liquid evaporate.
Five Pawns is on my list of juices to try. I’ve been vaping almost exclusively Backwoods Brew and Ahlusion for almost two years. I like the complex, grown-up flavours.
Any decent juice is going to morph and change taste over time, and usually for the better. Steeping time is an acknowledged factor in taste; raw juice often needs a few weeks in a cool dark place. There are probably about eight million threads on this here.
I have had flavours degrade - usually the sweeter ones from Ms T’s. They’ve gone from complex to single-note and boring over a few months.
Over time, the volatile compounds (whether they be fragrance oils or essential oils or a combination of both) will evaporate and degrade. They don’t do so at the same rate, however, which is why the flavor changes. If they are open to air, of course, that’s going to increase the rate at which they evaporate. I had a Kanger Aerotank 2, and I found that it was really “whistley” no matter how much I fiddled with it. It took in more air than some other designs. So it wouldn’t surprise me that it’s letting flavor/odor compounds out.
Depends on the person, their equipment and their vaping style, but 1mL is considered roughly equivalent to a pack of smokes. So people who vape a lot might go through a couple of mL a day. For many people, 30mL is about a month’s supply.
You can get the components (vegetable glycerin and/or propylene glycol, nicotine concentrate (optional) and flavor concentrate) and mix them yourself for much cheaper. But even if you’re vaping premade juice, it’s still way cheaper than smoking. $1/mL is pretty common pricing.
So far, it’s been some tasty stuff–I’ve tried two out of my sample of ten. The other is Gambit. I was surprised to find the apple much more of a background note; caramel is dominant.
It’s definitely much more open than my other tanks, even on the most “closed” setting. I’ll try to remember to close it off when I’m not using it.
