Dog fighting thread

What’s the motivation? Surely not just the money. What sort of person participates in dog fighting?
I’ve never witnessed a dog fight, but I have a cock fight. I noticed that afterwards many of the men had kind of a sick, guilty look about them. Is this so at a dog fight?
Maybe a large reward for tipsters and serious consequences for the perps would discourage the practice. Probably not.

When I was in Korea, we ate dogs, and they were pretty tasty. These were not household pets, rather they were dogs that had been bred for eating. Some dogsa are bred to be useful working animals, some are bred to be show dogs, some are bred for eating, and some are bred for fighting. What exactly is the difference? And yes, I am a dog lover also. My 7 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback is a natural fighter as well, even though we have never trained him that way. But I would never let him fight.

That’s funny (odd?), Mondeo. I have absolutely no objection to eating dogs. I’m going to have to think about that.

Well, I thought about it.
I’d also object to fighting cows.
I’m ok now.

Butchering for consumption is a fulfillment of need. Butchering for sport is a fulfillment of want.

Generally, only unnecessary animal abuse is considered deplorable.

Were butchering for sport somehow, someway a fulfillment of need, might it not be so deplorable?

Welcome, Vorae, to one of the coolest  places in the internet.
Now what was that?

Nice to meet you Vorae ,

Well dog fighting wouldn’t quite be butchering. “Ultimate” fighting between humans isn’t butchering either. It is a physical contest of strength, aggression and violence in both cases. Legal boxing matches require medical staff. Couldn’t we require the same for the dogs, were it legal?

What’s really going on here, Sweet Willy. I seem to detect a certain amount of wistfullness in your posts.
Do you like this dog fighting guy? Sounds like maybe you see this a flaw in someone you otherwise enjoy the company of.
I don’t mean to get too personal, and I’m certainly not flaming you. I simply can’t figure out your posts.
In my opinion, guys who fight dogs are not nice guys. Whatever their other other qualities, doing something so cruel is a flaw. Most of the replies here are negative.
How do you really feel about the practice?
This should have been an IMHO thread anyway.

If I seem confused on this issue it is because I am. I have never liked the idea of dog fighting. I have seen a few, not all organized, and it isn’t pretty. I felt badly for the dogs. I am a dog lover. I feel badly also that human blood sport has risen to a substantal level. Have you seen the Ultimate fighting stuff? People are getting the crap kicked out of them and it is big bucks on pay per view. Just seems hard to comprehend why we condon and even some of us support this activity amoung humans while rejecting the idea amoungst dogs.
