Dog Shows - More dogs than bitches?

Are there more dogs in dog shows than bitches? It seems that way. If there are more dogs, what is the reason?

Because bitches can come into season at awkward moments and be disqualified from competing?

For example:

allowed to trial. If a bitch is found to be on heat during the trial, all awards will be withdrawn and the owner will be

[Hijack]I thought (incorrectly) that “sire” was the male counterpart to bitch. While looking up “bitch” on Wiki, I came across this gem:

The term flip a bitch is used primarily in America where it means to make a u-turn (legal or illegal). In parts of California, the term u-turn has gone out of use.

I didn’t realize Californians don’t call them u-turns anymore!

It is if you’re talking about the parents of the dog. In that case, they’re “sire” and “dam”. Otherwise, “dog” and “bitch”.

I asked two acquaintances who are breeders (one breeds Standard Schnauzers, the other Airedales). Apart from the coming into heat angle, they mentioned that males are often more “showy”: bigger, bolder and more powerful-looking. This seems to appeal to many judges.
