Dog the bounty hunter. You disapoint me sir.

I’m not sure if it’s good, bad, or parts of both that a convicted killer and out-and-out peice of filth who does one of the scummiest, dirtbag-attracting jobs there is, got a TV show, fame and fortune from doing his scumbag job, but holy moly, get caught saying the word
“nigger” and the world’s ready to crucify him. Not that I’m fond of horrible racial insults, but isn’t this, like, pretty minor-league sins, and par for the course for criminal scum?

This is exactly what I’m not getting. It’s a shock that a guy called “Dog the Bounty Hunter” isn’t the president of the Hawaii chapter of Mensa and the ACLU?

Well, personally, i’ve seen the show once, and bits of it at other times, and have never, myself, found any interest or appeal in the guy.

But i can also see why this incident makes news. Lots of people love a redemption story, and that’s exactly how Chapman’s story has been told on his show. The whole point of the show is not just to show what he does for a living, but to make plenty of hay from a story of bad-guy-turned-good, criminal-turned-lovable-Christian. There are long monologues with him talking about how he used to be a bad guy, but now he just wants to save the world etc., etc., ad nauseum.

I’m sure no-one is too surprised, in general, that a convicted-murder-turned-bounty-hunter could use the word nigger; i think it’s that people bought into the carefully sculpted TV image, and are having trouble reconciling it with the type of person that it now appears Chapman truly is.

If you never really watched the show, or if you never bought the image in the first place, this story hardly constitutes news. But if you did, then you probably find yourself disappointed, like the OP.

Will “Dog”, with nothing to lose, now revert to his old criminal ways? Will he seek muderous revenge on those responsible for his downfall? And would the son have even been dating the young lady in two months anyways?

my thought exactly. don’t know, don’t care if he’s a racist (though casual usage of the term suggests he is), but am certain he’s an asshole.

Further, why not just use the word “motherfucker” where he used “nigger,” if it’s just about the anger? I don’t know anything about Dog either, but that’s one of the questions that comes to my mind.

The murder that sent him to the pen in Texas was of Jerry Oliver, a drug dealer (who happened to be black, FWIW). Chapman didn’t actually pull the trigger, he was waiting in the car with 2 others ( a male and a female) while Donny Kuykendal went to Oliver’s door.

Oliver was shot by Kuykendal, accounts vary as to whether they intended to just rob Oliver for drugs as opposed to kill him, but a shotgun was used so it’s not unreasonable to think the people in the car knew something besides a drug buy was about to take place.

Anyway, Chapman was arrested by local authorities as he was preparing to flee town so no bail jumping had occured. IOW, no bounty hunters involved.

This all happened when I was about a freshman in HS IIRC. It was semi-big news at the time.

Sure, you can. If you’re racist.

I don’t know. Consider me whooshed I guess.

The guy seemed very genuine when it came to helping people out or off drugs etc…

What also gets me is that “Dog” is talking like his use of such language is this deep dark secret thing the family does that they must continue to do but can’t let anyone find out about, like “we can’t let her find out we sacrifice babies to Satan”.

I’m not sure what repulses me more; Dog being a racist, or that civil “rights” people want him off the air because “When someone gets the opportunity to use the airwaves, he becomes a role model, whether he likes it or not.”

Fuck that, fuck Dog, and fuck Roy Innis.

Well his past certainly explains why we doesn’t carry a gun.

Oh yeah, the racist thing. Don’t care.

If I was a fan of the show, this wouldn’t make me stop watching. It’s barely shrug-worthy.

Are civil “rights” people really wanting him off the air or are you just anticipating this? I checked around to see and the only thing I saw was that “Dog” had been calling Al Shartpton.

http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20156192,00.html

It was only a matter of time before he had to call Jesse or Al. Why should anyone have to do that? Because if they don’t, civil rights will force the media to fire him. Just like they did with Imus.

When did Al Sharpton become the official spokesmodel for African-Americans? Let me rephrase that… my initial post came off as contemptous of Rev. Sharpton, who I generally like. What is it about white celebrities caught out being racist that makes them run particularly to Sharpton? Is it because they know he can get press?

Hey, she might give you a job. I hear she has an opening.

You caught me while editing. :o

(I don’t want to move to South Africa.)

I averted my eyes. I didn’t see anything. I swear!
