Is their any evidence that owners of dogs that supposedly can sense oncoming seizures can in fact do this? Any thoughts on how they do it? I assume they might notice differences in posture that occur before an attack, since some dogs, and cats, seem to be keen observers of movement.
I don’t know about seizures…but I saw a show once where they said dogs could smell cancers. So it wouldn’t surprise me.
It’s possible that people who are about to have seizures stink, but that’s not what the article says. It does say what most other sites will tell you, that we simply don’t know what triggers their behavior, whether it’s a change in their owner’s behavior or smell, or electrical activity. Dogs are known to be able to detect thunderstorms before they occur, and epilepsy is all about electricity. Still I know that just after my seizures, I feel clammy and cold(from my heart racing). It’s possible that a dog could pick up on the scents of that beginning to start.
