DoJ indicts U.S. Congressman on corruption charges

The eleven-term Democratic Congressman from Philadelphia is standing firm, despite the 27 charges levied against him – for bribery, money laundering and wire fraud. Total, he faces up to 240 years in prison.
Ho-hum - yet another corrupt politician. But two interesting points:

  1. The guy is feisty - he even intends to run again for his seat in 2016. Incidentally, his district is where Democrats are going to have their convention. The optics are going to be fun.

  2. Bribery, money laundering and wire fraud. You’d think the guy would be something other than dirt poor, right? Yet rollcall.com lists him as 9th poorest member of Congress - with the net worth of -$700,000. That’s negative $700K.

He is possibly less adroit than the rest.

Hey, if he was a smart criminal, he would have made more money and not got caught.

Crime doesn’t pay.

Whew, not from Illinois.

See? And if he’d been an (R), he’d have been corrupt AND made a profit…
“This is why we need more businessmen in government.”

That family doesn’t like July 29th. His son (C F Jr) was indicted one year ago, to the day.
His wife, a TV news talking head was involved but not indicted; she is taking taking a leave of absence. Maybe she’ll be up on 7/29/16?

Funny how this sort of thing tends to be a family affair. Here in Michigan, we have Democratic Rep. John Conyers from Detroit. His wife, Monica Conyers, was on the Detroit city council, and got sent to prison following the Kwame Kilpatrick era. Presumably because he was too busy covering his own tracks, John failed to submit enough valid signatures for the next election, but with the help of a [del]bribed[/del] sympathetic judge, he got his name on the ballot anyway and was re-elected. Why anyone would vote for this crook after all those shenanigans is left as an exercise for the reader.

And of course, there’s Bill & Hillary, who are currently teaching their daughter how to run a shady charity…

wow, he was charged/under investigation and still was reelected with 88% of the vote…

Philadelphia – bunch of slackers. Pittsburgh elected a convict as mayor. And as a write-in!

(He ended up decapitated by a train – Joseph Barker in case anyone is interested.)

What do you expect from Filthadelphia?

Dirt poor on paper. I don’t doubt there are millions squirreled away in offshore accounts and portable assets.
