DOJ/Jack Smith Investigation into Trump and Election Interference, January 6th Insurrection (Re-Indicted August 27, 2024)

“Jury of one’s peers” is an ancient and time-honored legal principle.

That may have come off more biting than I intended it. I was tying to be tongue-in-cheek.

Also yay my congressperson is under investigation! (Missouri politics are a shit show.)

Trump keeps telling us it’s a kangaroo court.

And another twit gets arrested. I wonder why he had folding chairs on his back?

I like the use of the word “fan” there. There’s a certain dismissiveness to it that appeals to me. These dopes think they’re revolutionaries fighting to save America. Painting them as the Trump equivalent of Taylor’s “swifties” is funny.

Good eye. I like that, too.

So, Trumpies? (Sounds like some weird type of Breakfast cereal…)

Press on.

But I thought that the corrupt Biden DOJ only ever investigated Republicans?

Given the choice between taking your word for it and contradicting you highly insightful and intelligent Ms Aspenglow, I think I going to have to ask your for your drivers license and voter registration.

I think laughing uproareously at them would be much more effective than raging incandescently.

These roosters may parade as armour plated fanatics, but they are pure blancmange under that exoskeleton.

Yeah! How do we know you’re just not in denial about living in New Jersey?

But then again, Missouri seems like a strange place to fantasize about living in…

Ok, I’ll stop.

The original Trumpy:

For those interested the PBS series Frontline has published a 2.3 hour long episode on the legal case against Trump for the January 6 attacks. I know many here do not like videos but I cannot find a transcript (I did not look very hard).

“Democracy on Trial” traces the road to this unprecedented moment, and examines the implications of the historic criminal case unfolding in the midst of a presidential election year. Drawing on court documents and revelatory interviews with elected officials, former government lawyers, House Select Committee witnesses and former committee staffers, authors and journalists, the documentary reports that the work of the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack provided the groundwork for special counsel Jack Smith’s indictment of Trump and may offer insights into how the trial unfolds.

You can watch it on the PBS Frontline website or on YouTube (below).

The transcript may be available here in the near future. Right below the video, where you see the header “TOPICS”, you will see a link to “Credits”. Other Frontline videos from prior episodes have a “Transcript” link immediately to the left of the “Credits” link. Check back at the link in this post after a few days or so.

I just noticed that Frontline (maker of the video I posted just above) also has the full interviews (I think full interviews) of several prominent figures in the above video. Each YouTube video is 45-90 minutes long. Good stuff if you enjoy deep dives into these events. In no particular order:

  • Soumya Dayananda (senior investigative counsel for the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol)
  • Adam Kinzinger (U.S. representative from Illinois from 2011 until 2023 and was one of two Republicans to serve on the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack )
  • Rusty Bowers (Arizona’s speaker of the House from 2019-23)
  • Robert Ray (a member of President Donald Trump’s legal defense team during the President’s first Senate impeachment trial in 2020)
  • Bennie Thompson (chairman of the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol)

Yes, the Frontline piece is long. It also some of the best reporting on January 6th and what lead up to it that I’ve seen. I don’t see how anyone could watch it and still think Trump is anything other than a criminal. It should be mandatory viewing for anyone wanting to vote. I’m sure the Trumpers won’t watch it and still declare it a far left hit job. Bravo Frontline!

Yep – the transcript is now up. Here’s a direct link:

As judges mull presidential immunity, Trump reaps the benefits of delay

I can say it. The delays are “on its face, absurd.” If I was a witness, I’d say that it all happened years ago - I can no longer remember.

I think she’s saying the immunity claim can’t be said to be “on its face, absurd” (even though it can).

It’s about time…
