I thought we’d named another character out of necessity there, like Scary Glasses Wearing Dad or whatever from Heroes. Her real name is Miracle Laurie? Wow.
So why did Miracle’s character say that the FBI agent was remembered from when she signed her “active” contract? Why would he have been there? He couldn’t even find their base without big help. He hated the entire operation.
Which illustrates another problem with the premise. Adelle told November that she’d sleep for 5 years and wake up, and the pain would be gone. From November’s perspective, though, no time passed at all. It would have been a literal nap for her. Wouldn’t she still feel the loss of her daughter just as keenly?
Unless Topher modified her memories, but he told Ballard he couldn’t do that.
Meh. I’m having trouble getting into this show. I want to get into it, but it’s just not doing it for me. Maybe if they used all this wonderous technology for something a bit less mundane than creating nursemaids and prostitutes.
If Ballard let Topher know what was going on with Echo, Topher would give her a super duper extra wipe instead of just a regular one.
When did he say that he couldn’t do that? He said he couldn’t alter people before they were wiped. What they do is take your memory out and then wipe you. So they could modify you in some way. Which they must do, since November remembers her kid and feels nothing. 5 minutes or 5 years, that’s not something that wouldn’t affect you unless Topher did something.
Well, considering she immediately went rogue and practically broke his nose after a normal wipe, one would think she’s going to be in for extra wipage anyway. I do hope that at least a nod is made to that plot point in the next episode; one of the things I like best about Whedon’s shows is their relatively careful attention to continuity.
I thought they already did address that in the conversation Topher and Ballard have in Adelle’s office right afterward - Ballard calls Topher a genius only half-sarcastically and Topher realizes the changes he made to Echo’s brain that induced metabolic (hormonic?) changes also needed to be addressed when she was next wiped. So presumably Topher added an additional component to the “wipe” template to “normalize” Echo’s biochemistry.
Unless you mean the plot point about Echo slamming Topher - in which case, yeah, I think Topher is going to be extra-careful around Echo from now on.
