Yeah I generally don’t care much about celebrity deaths but this one saddens me. I had her pegged as going to be one of those past 100 and energetic ones.
Her music was fine by me, but she really seemed like a genuine and genuinely wonderful person.
Ah well.

Dolly always seemed authentic and cool.

In 1991, Reba McEntire’s eight-member touring band died in a private plane crash. Dolly Parton and Vince Gill called McEntire and offered to cancel their upcoming shows so that their bands could join with McEntire and continue her tour. McEntire ended up not taking Parton and Gill up on their offer, but has spoken many times since about how touched she was for Dolly to reach out to her personally, see how she was doing, and offer to what she could to get Reba’s tour back on the road.

In such a divided time, I wonder if she’s the last person everyone loved. A remarkable achievement anyway.
Damn. You had a good run, Dolly. I was surprised to find that she was 80, always seemed much younger than that.
I didn’t expect to cry when I heard the news. Thanks for all you did for us.
Our Lady of the Black Bears has been assumed into Heaven. She was truly a national treasure.

I have two children and when they were little, both received free books monthly or so from Dolly Parton.
She was someone who didn’t just talk big. She lived up to it.

I never bought a CD of hers. But I do have, on my play list a couple of hernsongs. Jolene and Islands. They are iconic.
9 to 5 makes my skin crawl. I realize it’s very popular and I can see why. But the song grates on my nerves.

A cute, but I’m assuming dated movie, too. Still, Dabney Coleman plays an incredibly unlikeable villain in the film and it makes us all the more sympathetic to Dolly, Lilly, and Jane.
If she wasn’t America’s Sweetheart, she was damn close.

She tends to be lumped with Fred Rogers, Steve Irwin, Levar Burton, David Attenbourough. They aren’t Americans, but they are/were all international treasures, much like Dolly.
