My fav quote of hers is “Takes a lot of money to look this cheap”
Also some trivia she has been married to her husband for over 50 years and he has seen her in concert once. She recorded Stairway to Heaven since he’s a big Led Zeppelin fan
On the one hand, I can understand a celebrity not wanting a partner who’s interested in them just because they’re a celebrity, and marrying someone who’s not a fan of your art is one way to achieve that. On the other hand, you’d think that, even if he’s not a fan of her musics, he’d still go to at least a few of her concerts, just in support of her.
BTW, a couple of weeks ago, Stephen Colbert had Obama as a guest on his show and at one point, he asked the former president why Dolly Parton never received the presidential medal of freedom. Obama seemed genuinely surprised. I think he said that he thought she already had it and that he’d talk to Biden about awarding it to her. That would be a well-deserved honor.
Reading about her schedule in that interview, it reminds me a lot of the guy who was my boss at my work-study job in college – he was a marketing specialist for a division of the University of Wisconsin-Extension.
He’d been in the Navy during WWII, and was accustomed to only getting 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night. Once he got out of the Navy, and went to college, he decided that he could get even more done in a day if he could get away with less sleep. So, over the course of a few months, he shortened his sleep schedule from 6 hours a night, to 4 hours a night. He told me that, at that point, he decided that anything less than 4 was probably not a good idea; he stuck to that schedule for decades.
When i was working with him, in the '80s, he’d go to bed at 11pm, with his wife, after watching Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show monologue. He’d then get up at 3am, shower, get dressed, and go down to his den, where he’d work for about 4 hours. His wife would get up at 7, and make breakfast for the two of them. He’d then head to the office, getting there by 8:30 or so, having already worked for 4 hours.
I should note that this guy also drank several pots of coffee per day, and smoked four packs of cigarettes a day. His routine worked for him, but was by no means a healthy lifestyle. I suspect that Dolly takes a bit better care of herself.
I was doubly surprised - she wrote Jolene based in a real woman flirting with her then-new husband. “Jolene” is long gone, but he and Dolly are still married, almost 60 years later.
she wrote Jolene and I will always love you during the same week , possibly the same day.
She is pretty liberal especially for a country music star. She has a big gay fan base. She was accused of being gay and said she’s not but if she was she would admit it.
One time some photogs were chasing a limo they thought had Julia Roberts but it turned out to be Dolly. Funny scene when she existed the limo.
