Donald Trump doesn't need to be in *every* thread, does he?

I’m starting this thread reluctantly because I know I’m going to be attacked because of it and I really hate confrontation, online or in real life, but its affecting my enjoyment of the SD and I’m sure also other peoples.

Yes you don’t like Donald Trump, we get it, I don’t like him either, but does he have to put in an appearance in so many threads? Even those with basically no connection in any sense to politics somehow have to have him shoe-horned in there usually with a ‘clever’ comment or reference.

Personally I’m tired of opening an interesting looking thread and it being once again side-tracked by references and remarks about Trump, for me at least it breaks ‘suspension of disbelief’ for want of a better phrase. I come to the SD at least partially to get away from politics and to come across politically references again and again in so many threads and discussions is jarring at best, a complete thread kill at worst.

I recall someone giving the advice ‘don’t let other people live inside your head’, meaning don’t keep thinking and obsessing about people who have wronged you, because you can be certain they aren’t thinking about you.

Well the SD is obsessed with Donald Trump, and its a lot less fun and pleasant place to be as a result.

It’s as in that Churchill quote, a fanatic is someone who can change his mind and won’t change the subject, it’s awfully tedious.

I kinda look forward to the knee-jerk “It’s all Trump’s Fault!” posts. They’re inevitable when someone is in a dither over weather, politics, climate, acne, continental drift, you name it.

We have a game here where, after reading the thread subject, friendly bets are placed on how many posts before Trump’s name appears. The SDMB rarely lets us down.

It’s a continuation of the “Thanks, Obama!” game from the previous eight years.

So, take a sabbatical from the forum till 2025?

Problem with that way of thinking is that if everyone just shuts up and waits him out, there is no guarantee it will be out of the White House in 2025. I don’t like having him brought up every day either, but he and his policies are so damaging to this country ignoring him is like ignoring an annoying kitchen fire. He needs to be checked, and his supporters need to be forced to witness the truth about what it is they have brought upon us. The alternative is to pretend he doesn’t exist, and that won’t end well.

Such comments and jokes are entirely political and its perfectly obvious who is being referred to.

However I guess I’m in the minority on this one, I just thought it was worth mentioning as I said its affecting my enjoyment and use of the SDMB and I thought others might be feeling the same way.

I agree. Some people simply have a nagging pea that rolls about in their brain incessantly and they can’t help bringing it up into every topic. For some, it’s Trump. For another poster (whom I won’t name,) it’s abortion and religion - she can’t help making a dig at pro-lifers or Christians every chance she gets. For some, it’s socialism or the libs. They feel the need to infect others with what’s going on in their mind; they can’t just let it stay in their own mind and theirs own only.
