Ever since the election, it seems like every other thread – even threads that aren’t directly about the guy – have devolved into back-and-forth venting about him, and whether or not the country will be heading directly into a fascist dictatorship come January 20th.
Even here in the Pit, threads like “Surprises coming for voters for the Leopards-Eating-Faces Party” and “What were you THINKING?” have turned into this. And, honestly, a lot of it is a relative handful of Dopers, arguing back and forth and back and forth about whether the “truth” is:
“No one will stop Trump now. All of his enemies are going to be killed.”
“We still have courts and laws and the Constitution and such, and it won’t be that bad.”
I mean, literally, hundreds and hundreds of these posts, in which posters holding one of the two above POVs keep trying to outshout the other side.
I get it that a lot of us are some combination of angry/scared/devastated, and the SDMB gives a place to vent. But, this particular circular argument has taken over.
We’re a politically aware crowd. I get it. But if you can’t make a post without bringing trump into it, then go play in the trump category and leave the rest of us out of it.
I fully recognize that I too have been guilty of this crime in the last few weeks. But I’m consciously trying to knock that crap off. There are plenty of explicitly trumply threads to vent your hobbyhorse.
It makes comment threads on things like the Washington Post completely terrible as well (well, more terrible.) There will be a completely innocuous article like a recipe for baked pasta or something and the top comment will be like “When Trump’s tariffs go into effect you’ll never be able to buy Italian made spaghetti sauce again” or similar bullshit.
They sure aren’t making as big a deal about it as they did in 1976 for the Bicentennial. Maybe that’s because after seeing what the country has become after four years of a NY real estate tycoon as POTUS (and the distinct possibility that this person may stage a successful return in 2024) there’s no guarantee that the United States as we currently know it will still exist by July 4, 2026. -“BB”-

In both cases, whatever was the original topic of the thread vanished, shifting into the infinitely circular arguments that I outlined in the OP, with the same handful of Dopers posting again and again.
The more he rants about the “failing New York Times” and how SNL has gone down the tubes, Trump just betrays how much these and other New York institutions mean to him. He can camp out in Mar a Lago and play Floridian, but he has always measured himself by how he’s treated by New York society and media.

This being the Pit, I have to seriously question the sincerity (or sanity) of @Czarcasm’s request for examples of trump-related posts in non-trumply threads.
Unless he’s simply stopped reading the Dope for the last month and suddenly popped up in this thread all disoriented about the current zeitgeist around here.
It’s a matter of perspective. One party has a candidate who had a cabinet member hospitalized. The other side has a candidate who has personally committed sexual assault, election fraud, treason, and taken bribes from foreign governments. It’s pretty clear which party is more delusional about the quality of their candidate.

Czarcasm loves asking questions but refuses to answer any that shows he’s wrong. By not answering those question he feel he’s won.
Current open questions I know of that he refuses to answer:
Does he still think Vermont is a Red State as he claimed?
His response: crickets.
What is he doing personally to overturn bad SCOTUS decisions?
He refuses to answer this question but interestingly he later challenges Smapti with my question as a gotcha. We point out in that thread that HE refuses to answer, but of course he ignores us.
