When I read this post and this one, I thought of this thread. See? Just askin’ questions. Just wantin’ answers. No ill intent, nosirree, Bob! Why, I didn’t say I was a white supremacist! Can’t a person just ask questions? Can’t a person just think it all looks so, so suspicious without being accused of something?
Here’;s my problem with this claim (and I trust you’ll concede I’m not saying this because I’m a hopelessly partisan lefty). It’s a contentious and highly relevant claim about a very simple issue, with the evidence readily available.
I admit, for exmaple, that we might even allow that someone who said, “Well, there might be something to the ‘death panels’ in Obamacare…” cannot be dismissed as unreasonable. The bill is long; the regulations to implement the bill still mostly unwritten; common-sense tells us some sort of medical care rationing at some level is necessary. Someone with no time to research the issue might lend credence to the idea that ‘death panels’ is a fair description of what’s planned.
Obviously, even a small amount of research would dispel the notion.
With respect to Obama’s birth, though, the issue is very simple, and the evidence equally so. While I admit there’s a lot of fluff about “long form” and “short form” birth certificates floating around, the one simple piece of evidence is that Obama’s birth was announced in the Hawaiian newspaper. This is something (birth announcements in newspapers) that everyone has some experience with, and which from a non-legal but completely common-sense standpoint completely eviscerates the idea he was born in Kenya. We don’t need to parse Congress’ intent in granting citizenship to children born overseas; we simply have to hear that the Barack Obama birth was in Hawaii because the newspaper at the time announced it.
