Donald Trump winks and nods to the Second Amendment people

So your objection to people trying to hold presidential candidates to a standard is that in the past people didn’t hold presidents to a standard? Are you sure that’s the best you can do?

I don’t object to people who wish to hold someone to a standard. I do think it’s silly to think that a random person is going to share any other’s arbitrary standards.

Is it true? You tell me.

Well, many people are saying it. Smart people. Believe me, they are some of the best people. I just don’t know. It sounds terrible that he would do such a thing. Sad.

I’m not ready to just believe CNN and their anonymous source at the SS. Why would they make public the fact that they met with Trump or his people? It’s not for nothing that they’re called the Secret Service.

I just ran across this on YouTube. It was never more appropriate than now, but it was recorded in 1988. It’s the Smothers Brothers reunion show, and Dickie says (at 4:55):

“You’re acting like a stupid fool!”

Tommy: “I’m running for president!”

If moral axioms were universal and people were purely rational than there would be consensus on what constitutes progress. But that’s not the state we find ourselves in. Therefore we see the success of those who offend.

Bolding for emphasis.

And you know for a fact that ALL of his fans took it as a joke? That ALL of his fans heard the statement the way Trump’s campaign wants you to believe?

An overlooked aspect of the story – Wilmington, North Carolina’s connection to “Second Amendment solutions” has a certain resemblance to Philadelphia, Mississippi’s connection to “state’s rights”.

THESE Trump supporters did not take it as a joke.

Uh, back when slavery was legal and societal standards were lower.

Try again.

If anyone knew the answer to that question, we wouldn’t be at this point right now.

And that’s all that matters.

Someone who’s a nominee for president ought to know that not everyone will see it as a joke. And if someone can’t understand that, they’re simply not qualified for office.

Sometimes I think Trump honestly is just an experiment to show how utterly fucking stupid the average American is and why we should scrap democracy.

Wait, I missed the page break. Did octopus really just claim that “not raping and enslaving” is a silly and arbitrary standard?

Look! A new explanation! Linky

Not even his own campaign can understand him.

There’s even precedent for it…

“Will no one rid me of this meddlesome priest?”

And your proof for that is that someone posted it on the internet? Really?? You’re going to hang your hat on that?

Now look, I’m more than wiling to believe (i.e., don’t need proof) that some nutty folks out there probably are thinking: * Right on, Trump. You tell 'em!!!* But don’t try and convince us of that with something you pulled off the internet.

I assume you’re indulging in irony here.

After all, you presented your POV on on the internet, and I believe you.

Well, if my 19th amendment solution to a Trump presidency doesn’t work, I plan on embracing the 21st for the next four years.

By “success” you mean “losing an election against the worst Democratic candidate in a generation,” right? Because that’s like Charlie Sheen tiger-blood winning, and I’m satisfied if that’s how Trump goes down.

The fact that moral axioms aren’t universal does not signal their irrelevancy, despite what some college-dorm-level nihilism philosophy would suggest.
