The Secret Service is admirably professional - if I were the Secret Service Communications Director I’d probably write my resignation letter before saying “well, if anyone takes a pot shot at Trump, we are planning to duck and let you hit him - cause we don’t really want to be risking our lives for someone who thinks so little of ours.”
I honestly don’t see where anyone who has invested their life, their career, and possibly even a child here in America…
I can’t see where anyone who has a stake in the future of America in any way at all… can call today… a lucky day.
I disagree. Trump seems like a narcissist with a very fragile ego. He can’t handle the fact that he is losing. Are we just going to say ‘oh he was just joking’ every time he suggests something illegal, immoral and against America’s interests? When he encourages Russia to engage in cyberwarfare against the US? When he calls for the assassination of his political enemies? When he compliments dictators? Where does it end?
For some reason, I am thinking about the story of when Reagan was shot, and he joked with the doctor that he hoped he was a Republican, and the doctor said something like “Today, Mr. President, we are all Republicans.”
No, Hillary is not yet elected, and I hope when she is she remains quite, quite safe. I hope she is never in a position to joke with the doctor tending her after an assassination attempt. But now, I feel like the GOP nominee has taken us just a little closer to that day. The 2nd Amendment solution he joked about was no doubt heard clearly by someone out there who agrees with him.
In fairness, it could also be interpreted to suggest an armed uprising against the government rather than an assassination. I mean, that doesn’t make it better, but I think that’s a valid interpretation in context as well.
I hope he’s at least taken in for questioning, and I hope the fuckwad resists.
Even if they handcuff him, he’ll just slip those tiny hands free and be gone, man…
Isn’t that still inciting an armed revolt?
Hey, I didn’t say it was any better! Just that it could be interpreted as just violence against Clinton vs. violence against the government.
Hannity claimed on Foxnews that “nobody in the room” interpreted Trump’s statement as one of violence. I say bullshit, and the proof is in the video. Look at the older man in the red shirt right behind trump. As soon as he utters the line, he clearly turns to his (wife?) and looks at her in a way that shows he knew exactly what Trump was saying, and it didn’t have anything to do with unification.
You know, they excuse-spin the public comments he makes on live national television.
What happens when he says reckless passing thoughts in private?
A former Secret Service agent is vigorously defending Trump, gets called a liar on the air by Don Lemon and calls Clinton a “gun-grabber”.
Oh, he’s running for office in Florida.
Viva la Florida!
I wish I could see more footage from the audience to see more reactions.
But anyway, it’ll be interesting to see the news tomorrow and who else dumps Trump due to this latest gaff.
Trump Supporter: ‘I like Trump because he says what he means’
Trump: ‘Shoot my opponent’
Trump Supporter: ‘He didn’t mean what he said’
Done. Thank the internet.

I don’t think Donald Trump was calling for higher voter turnout and neither did the audience.
Say, Paul, is an assassination threat over that “line” of yours?
It’s hopeless to expect the Republicans to nominate anyone who isn’t a clown, but could they at least go for more Clarabelle and Bozo and Ronald McDonald and less Pennywise and Joker and Sideshow Bob?
Stop this. Right now. It will vex me greatly to see this sort of thing again. Do not mock other posters in such a way.
Trump is trying to legitimize criminal behavior (Russia spying on the US, assassination of politicians) among his supporters, but trying to make it sound like a joke to his detractors.
I sincerely apologize. I honestly did not mean it in a mean or mocking fashion, merely in a friendly manner, and adaher seems to have taken such gentle ribbing in the past in this forum.
There’s something to this. On the one hand he and his surrogates have spent all afternoon claiming it was just a joke-- come on, you silly billies! Jokey!-- but then at a rally in Fayetteville, he tells his supporters that it’s time to take a “tougher tone” against Hillary.
So was that call for a Second Amendment solution just a joke, or a serious pivot towards a “tougher tone?”
