Donating sperm to a friend...

The interest vesting in the child is a good point.
In my friend’s case, I should have said he had all parental anythings removed. He was no longer obligated to pay child support, because in the eyes of the state (and everyone who knew the cheap bastard) that kid was no longer his daughter in any way.

Beware of friends who have, unbeknownst to the would-be mother, had vasectomies.

(1000 points to anyone who can cite the movie reference …)

One other point should be borne in mind. Even if the law now protects the anonymity of sperm donors and reassures them that they will have no parental obligations, we cannot assume that it will always do so. It may be changed, and changed retrospectively. A parallel would be the changes in adoption laws which have occurred in some jurisdictions which allow adoptive children to identify their natural parents, even though at the time of the adoption the natural parents were told that this would not be possible.

Whether such a change should be made or not is Great Debates territory, so we should avoid it here. It is enough to note that it could be made.

(raised my hand & wave it) “ME, I am willing to donate my sperm!!!”

Well that’ll teach you. You wanna be a dad, be a dad. Watch where you spread your sperm!
