I posted this in this thread but I think this is important enough to merit its own thread–not to mention that I didn’t want to keep bumping it. The Navy web site has information about a fund that has been set up to assist the victims and families of the USS Cole.
Anyone interested in making a donation should make checks payable to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, or simply NMCRS, and include “For USS COLE” in the lower left corner of the check (the memo).
Mail all donations to:
Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society
801 North Randolph Street, Suite 1228
Arlington, VA 22203-1978
I wouldn’t assume no one is interested, Geobabe. I’m sure there are at least some people that have noted the information or linked to the page without comment here.
Thanks for posting it, BTW. A worthy cause if ever there was one. I know that Bluesmans office, as well as several offices where he works are also disseminating this information. I really wish the media were emphasizing it more. The debt that all Americans owe to these people and their families is incalculable.
I’ll bump it again and also relate that I’ve heard things are not so great for those still on the ship. I think the ship lacks some basics (for example, has only limited electricity) so crew have been sleeping on the decks. It’s hot there, and the repair work is grim. They’ve been cautious about any food from local vendors so they’ve been relying on stuff brought in from other US ships in the area.
This is a link for the USS Cole Relief Fund through the United Way of SHR (Norfolk). I’m posting this one because you can call with a credit card or donate online if it is more convenient. You just need to specify that it is for the Cole.
