If there’s one thing docs are good at, it’s cardiac stuff. She’ll have to put up with some uncomfortable procedures, some new meds, and probably some orders like “no more dancing boys for you!”, and you will continue on as before (except without the dancing boys).
In the meantime, it’s a hassle and scary and really, really frustrating. I feel for you and send you hugs from a distance.
Not good. Her pulmonary artery pressure is now 70, which is VERY high, and will therefore effectively cancel her upcoming cervical fusion surgery. The chances of her throwing a clot increase with the PAP and we don’t want to chance it, so we agree with waiting on the cervical surgery and treating the pulmonary hypertension with meds and a right-sided cath.
we’re being as optimistic as we can, but with both of us being respiratory therapists, we know the score.
We’ve both been told we don’t look (or in my case, act) our age and we still think young.
60 may be the new 40, but only on the outside. Inside, it’s a different story.
Good vibes and virtual hugs! Sorry the news isn’t better, but I’m glad it’s not worse. Don’t forget to take care of yourself - eat, sleep when possible, etc. It’s hard to take care of someone else if you don’t keep up your own strength.
I am most displeased to hear of the northbound pulmonary pressure readings - you tell Dondra to quit that right now, understand?!?!?!?!?
Ya know what I think it is? I thought as soon as we met you guys earlier in the year, that D reminds me a lot of Paula Deen. So now I’ve had to realize that she really is Paula, travelling incognito, and all those high-fat meals we see her cooking on TV have caught up with her.
::does some research::
OK, she’s actually Paula’s younger sister.. I guess one too many family meals where everyone gets their own stick of butter, have caught up with her.
You two hang in there and keep us all updated when you have the chance and are feeling up to it.
Bill, I’m so sorry you both are going through this. Please let Dondra know that I’m praying hard and that if there’s anything I can do, don’t hesitate to let me know.
You guys are to precious to us for bad stuff to happen, so I’m just going to continue believing things will work out for the positive and looking for good updates. Jaceson also sends his love and support.
Thanks for the notes. I read them to Dondra and she smiled and laughed (a little - she still hurts a lot) at the Paula Deen reference.
We’re still here, although we had a bit of a scare last night.
D started to feel bloated, which is one of the symptoms she experienced last year when her anestemoisis incision burst and rleased “free air” into her abdomen. Quick surgery was what saved her life then and we thought it was happening again last night, so we had the nurse call the doctor who ordered a stat xray to check for free air, but she had none, so we dodged that bullet.
So, we’re still dealing with the atrial fib and she has a Heparin drip to help with that, but so gfar nothing, and D says it’s a very UNPLEASANT feeling which keeos her awake all night.
Hematologist was in llast night and told us that ALL her blood values were low, so the neck fusison surgery is off indefinitely.
Lung doctor just left and told us pretty much the same thing: the high PAP is a symptom of something, but they don’t know what just yet, so they’re going to find out what it isn’t and go from there.
Again, I think we’re looking at the right sided heart cath as soon as she stabilizes a bit, but for the interim, we’re still here at least for the weekend.
We appreciate all the concern and vibes and teasing (she needs the laughs, just like I do).
Thanks
Bill
ETA: We just found out she also has gallstones and a fatty liver.
If anyone wants to (or if you have time), feel free to give us a holler at 770-732-4390 sometime this weekend. We’re stuck here in the room just watching Law And Order reruns - just me and my little girl and her teddy bear “DeeCee”. (After Washington DC, where we met MamaZ and TypoKnig earlier this year.:))
