Dondra Not Doing Well

Yeah. That would be the pits.

Sending you guys good thoughts! If you need some more laughs, check out this list of joke threads:

LOL Not as good as the one about you going in the bathroom growling "where IS it???!

Been thinking about you guys a lot. Love to you both!

Janis, that one is definitely in the “Greatest Hits” folder! Thanks for the love and the phone call! We appreciate it a lot.

We also got a call from Mama Zappa and Typo Knig this evening and it sure was good to hear their voices and also good to hear Dondra laughing as she talked about her little flower which plays “Heatwave” you two sent her . Whenever we play it, the nurse who happens to be in the room at the time “gets her groove on!”

This afternoon, D had to go down to nuclear medicine for something called a “Hidascan”, which is supposed to make the gallbladder visible. Well, they could see the liver and pancreas, but not the gallbladder, so they gave her 2mg of morphine, which relaxed the valve that goes into the gallbladder (“Give me 2 mg of that stuff, and I’ll show you all kinds of valves”, I wrote in my blog).

As I told Mama Z. Y’all talking to me in this thread has really been good for me, because, I don’t mind telling you, it’s been a bit scary for me (not that I’d ever show it), especially with one thing right after another.

Here’s something appropriate:

Anyone know of any other songs about hospitals or bein’ sick? Brynda, thanks for the joke thread! We’re enjoying the compilation!

Thanks, everyone!

Bill

Sending lots of love and healing thoughts to you and Dondra!!

How about one about being sedated?

I’m sending thoughts and virtual hugs to you and Dondra, Quasi. Let us know if you need anything.

Much love and hugs to you two from the wilds of West Virginia!

Weird Al-Like A Surgeon

Dondra is in good spirits today, although she’s still getting IV Heparin and all the drugs for her heart, and of course, the pain.

One thing we haven’t discussed are the results of the complete pulmonary function test. Although she’s never smoked or inhaled anything damaging to her lungs, she has reduced values in her FeV1 and Total Lung Capacity. (FeV1 is the amount of air that can be forcibly exhaled in one second, and total lung capacity is the amount of volume retained after a maximal inhalation. We don’t know for sure yet if this is what’s causing her pulmonary hypertension, so tomorrow’s cath will hopefully shed some light on that mystery.

D says to thank our friend ninetywt for the phone call a couple of nights ago. That is something I forgot, so I apologize. Thanks also to our friends Becky from California, and BillDL from Scotland for the phone call.

We had family to come and visit last night, and the night before my bro’ came to get me so I could go home, feed and water Bert and pick up some more things for the both of us.

All vitals are looking good today, and she’s not as SOB (short of breath - the other SOB is me!:)) as she has been, so all in all, a very pleasant Sunday.

We love you guys, and continue to be grateful for your concerns and thoughts and prayers.

Bill and Dondra

John and Pat, those were good songs y’all suggested. I’ll have to listen when we get home, because they’re buffering reaaalllly bad here on this wifi.

Thanks, though!

Quasi

Glad to have a positive update. Hope things keep going in a positive direction.

Hm, I believe human foie gras is illegal …:dubious:

No trying to sneak out en mass … :dubious:

 I had to ask D what that meant, aruvqan. "Liver Pate’ "

Thanks

Q

Glad you guys are keeping such good spirits with all that’s going on; still sending warm healing thoughts at you both. Yep, you too, Quasi; we all know how draining it can be worrying about our loved ones. Here’s to more good news!

Okay. After a good night’s sleep (helped along with Sister Ambien) and several schedule changes, (8:30 am, 12:00 pm and “in just a few minutes”), we’re starting IV’s again, and will be heafing to the cardiac cath room shortly.

One new med has been added to the mix, and this is one that D and I, as respiratory therapists are very familiar with: Mucomyst.

Mucomyst is a foul, rotten-egg-smellling liquid we usually give as an aerosol, but that she has to drink 4 times at 3 cc’s each time to protect her kidneys from the contrast they’ll give her for the cath. I teased her about it, but just a little, because I know she, like me, is worried about the results of this thing.

I’ll check in again afterward.

Thanks

Bill

I don’t have to be a respiratory therapists to know that anything named Mucomyst cannot be good.

Ew.

Just minutes before she was supposed to be taken down for her cath, her Nephrologist (did I mention she also has kidney issues?) comes in and says he’s cancelling the right-sided cath because her creatinine/BUN funtions are too low to stand the dye, and that this is a “non-emergent” procedure anyway.

Okay.

In a gew minutes, here come the cath techs to take her downstairs, so we tell them the procedure has been cancelled and why.

They said, “But we don’t even use dye with a right-sided cath!”

So now it’s on again and she’s been down there for 30 minutes.

What this also means is that she didn’t have to drink the fucking Mucomyst.

More later.

Thanks

Bill

I nominate “Fucking Mucomyst” as the new SDMB preferred insult.

Waiting to hear how the cath went!!!

Tell D that I’m watching her big sister on TV right now. The dialog, not kidding, was ‘“can you hand me the butter?”. “Yeah, gotta have the stick of butter!”. “You HAVE to have a stick of butter, it’s a Paula Deen recipe!!”’

Then after drinking a fruit smoothie made with tofu, “whoa, too much healthy, let’s have a muffin”.

Next up, caramel apple cheesecake and cheese soup.
