Done your census yet?

Today, I spent less than 5 minutes completing my census form. It was pretty uneventful, with the only questionable thing was that “Hispanic” was not a choice in the race category. I picked “white” instead. So have you completed yours? If not, why not? And what questions would you drop/add/alter?

Just did it today online, after getting three mailings about it.

Filled it out today. Although I wondered if I should wait until April 1. Because it asked about people living in the household on April 1, 2020, which hasn’t happened yet.

Thread from four years ago, of CanaDopers positively excited to be filling out their census forms, with several pining for the long form census.

I seem to remember a long and complicated (and intrusive) form in 2010. This time, like OP, it only took a very few minutes and did not seem either long or complicated. Slightly intrusive perhaps. All in all, a big improvement. Who do we blame for that?

Are you sure you’re not confusing the last census with the American Community Survey? According to the Census Bureau, they haven’t put a long form census since the ACS was adapted in 2005.

Like Roderick Femm I also seem to remember a long and complicated form, but maybe I’m remembering the 2000 form. The older I get, the faster the decades roll by.

We filled out ours 2 weeks ago, right after finding out that our 2 college kids were going to be in the house on April 1 because their colleges were closing their campuses for the semester. I was surprised at how short the form was.

My wife did ours online a few days ago.

Now I need to get off my ass and do our taxes.

Done a couple of weeks ago. I got a second reminder after I’d done it - checked to make sure it had the same ID code, which it did.

The 5 of us are counted, as long as no one dies in the next couple of days.

Yes. And I got my taxes done way early this year… mid-February… and I’m glad that’s out of the way.

I did the Census last week. (Or thereabouts. Hard keeping track of time nowadays.) I got a second mailing, which was a different size from the first one. I dug the first notice out of the shred bin and compared the code. They were the same, so I put the second notice in the bin.

Haven’t gotten ours yet.

My mom got two.

I’ve gotten 2 letters and a postcard so far. Completed today when I saw the thread and remembered I needed to take care of that. Was much shorter than anticipated.

I did mine a week or so ago. Someone else has always done it so I made sure I was the one who snatched it up and did it myself for the very first time. It’s silly but I felt like less of an adult not having done it personally.

I did it online so it’s one less vector of contagion I have to worry about.

I’ll do it when they send the paper form, like I do my taxes.

I filled it out the day I received it, day 1 of the Census.

Done, did the online bit shortly after getting the first one.

And yes, some people will also get polled under the ACS in addition to getting the Census form.

Whether or not you are Hispanic, and what flavor thereof, is an entire separate question. Because of it being an identifier of cultural heritage, there are Hispanics who are what an outside observer would call caucasian, black, amerind, mixed race, etc.
Why the heck are “Filipino” or “Japanese” then listed undern the “race” rather than cultural ethnicity box, no idea. Probably because they started doing it that way in 1900 and just stuck with it.

I did mine the weekend after I got my first notification, which was a couple of weeks ago now.

I had understood that “Hispanic” isn’t really a race, and that a person can be a white Hispanic, or a black Hispanic, or an Asian-Hispanic, etc.

This. I’m waiting until April 2.

I can’t do it yet. Nobody can. April 1 is still in the future! Who can say what tomorrow will bring?

I don’t know what my answers will be as of April 1 until the end of the day on April 1! How do I know where I’ll be living then? How do I know that I’ll even be alive then? Maybe everything is going to change in ways I would never have imagined on March 31!

(I did, however, get my Fed tax stuff done way early and even got my refund way early! Still haven’t even managed to get the forms yet for the state tax.)

Got it, answered it, and received three reminders after I filed it.

I was a bit disappointed that it didn’t ask me if I was a citizen or not. I’m proud to be one, and wanted to be counted as such.
