Donovin Darius, I wish injury upon you.

I’m not the type to wish injury in an athlete. Hell, as much as I hate Chris Hovan, I would never wish injury on him.

But you Darius. You just clotheslined a player that has a family. He’s laying prone on the field being strapped to a stretcher and you were ejected from the game. It was so obvious that everyone watching SportsCenter for the next week will know what you did.

Oh, and to anyone wondering what happens to fans of opposing teams, this piece of shit wasn’t even mocked. The fans at Lambeau Field are football fans. They were more concerned with an injured player than the play. When Donivan “Shit fucking bag” Darius left the field, not so much as a coke was thrown at him.

I hope to God I get a chance to see this fuck-ass. All I ask is 5 minutes. Fucking cocksucker wants to ruin the life of a player as well as his family for a cheap fucking shot that wouldn’t have made a difference on the play.

Darius, yeah you fuskshit. Let me make the case for you to be afraid of meeting me.

  1. I’m 3 inches taller than you

  2. I outweigh you by 35 pounds. (and it ain’t all fat)

  3. I’m not under contract with anyone associated with the NFL.

  4. See number 3, I can do what I please (within the rules of the SDMB). Almost forgot about that wink, wink, nod, nod

Darius, I’m out for your ass, you fucking worthless punk.

And before anyone tries to defend this fuck-ass, check out the cheap shot he took in trying to end a man’s carreer.

That was an awful, awful hit.

Watching Ferg get carted off reminded me of watching the Lions when I was younger. I saw Mike Utley make the same “thumbs-up” gesture in the early 90s, and Reggie Brown get carted off motionless in 1998. It’s chilling every time.

I hope Ferguson was only rendered unconscious, and fares better than the two other examples I gave did.

Fergie gave the thumbs-up as he was carted off, so he’s not dead yet. Hopefully it’s a precautionary deal and he’ll be back for the playoffs. But it’s a damn scary thing to see a guy that young carted off the field no matter who he is.
But given the circumstance that put him on that stretcher, I really, really, really, want to “talk” to that fucking punk Darius. Just for a minute or two, and not to cause harm. (I know the rules of the SDMB bar such wishes otherwise).

But I’m not always on the boards.

There have been an awful lot of head tackles around the league lately. Hopefully now that’ll stop with his gargantuan fine.

This isn’t 1972 anymore, guys!

Whether he meant to clothesline him or not, he was going for one of those “inflicting god awful amounts of pain” tackles. I hope he gets an NBA type fine and punishment.

Yeah, NFL footbal is supposed to be physical and demanding. I’m not bemoaning that. But obvious cheap shots like this would be low for the '81 Raiders.

I still say Satan himself would have fined the '81 Raiders. They were that bad.

Funny, but the '81 Raiders weren’t the most penalized team ever. That’s KC, '98

However… they are the ones EVERYONE* cites as the biggest cheaters, meanest cheap shotters, most obvious pandering to the officials and then gouging, biting, and virtually assaulting down players (like shoving dirt in a players mouth while on the bottom of a dog pile, just one example) while out of the line of sight of officials.

Their reputation stands as the cheating, cheap shot kings. Can someone please find a cite that justifies my possibly spotty memory?
*football fan personal friends of mine (including me), not books or magazine articles

Most penelized could be due to cheating or incompetence. The '81 Raiders were well known cheap shot cheaters. The '98 Chiefs finished 7-9 and were probably just sloppy.

Haj

he did lose feeling in his legs when he was laying there. He moved very little when he was laying there so it wouldn’t surprise me if he lost more than the feeling in just his legs.

Hey now, let’s not go off without hearing Darius’ side of the story

See, he’s clearly…um…sorry? And all this time I never knew cheating and nearly beheading were techniques.
Somewhere in the wilds of Canada, Todd Bertuzzi is clapping.

A lot of the '98 KC stuff was being too stupid to wait for the snap of the ball before jumping, both offense and defense.

Of couse they topped that off with some plain-old thuggery.

Hey now. Todd Bertuzzi did a lot better job apologizing for nearly ripping a guy’s head off, than THAT.

Linky to video?

I’d have to agree a lot of it was dumb mistakes. A better way to guage it would probably to see which team had the most personal fouls in a season.

I’m as much or more of a Viking fan as DtC, so injuries to any Packers in the course of honest play is usually good news. I don’t wish it, but it’s a fact of life in the NFL that folks will get injured.

But I agree. This guy is scum. And he isn’t apologetic. He should be ejected for the remainder of the year. This aint “The Longest Yard”, this is the NFL.

But only if they discount all the moronic “celebration” penalties, which may be unsportsmanlike, but are hardly thuggery (and shouldn’t be against the rules, imnsho).

Latest reports I read said that he had, indeed lost feeling in his legs on the field but that it was regained while he was on his way to the hospital. Fellow teammates also reported that he had lost consciousness.

Whether or not the hit was totally intentional is up for grabs I suppose… but it looked pretty dirty (and it was relatively late, too) to me.

I just hope Ferguson is okay in the end…

I saw the play too, and I’m not 100% convinced that Darius intentionally whacked Ferguson with the intent to injure. When you slow it down on the replay, yah, it looks like he zeroed in on Ferg’s head and just let loose. But that shit’s all happening so fast that it’s not unrealistic to think that Darius could have just been really ready to hammer the receiver - he was basically flexed up and lined up for the big hit, and he was flying through the air, and maybe his aim was off, or he couldn’t pull back at the last second because he was already in motion, or he just didn’t get himself under control like he might have liked.

I want to make it clear that I’m not defending Darius in any way. I do think that the guys have become bigger and stronger and faster than is reasonably safe, which is why we see injuries like this a lot more than we used to. Shit - it’s our version of Roman gladiators, and every year it gets more and more viloent and scary.

And, I’d still like to see **Duffer ** kick Darius’ ass.

At best, the hit was utterly reckless. A $50k fine is in order, maybe greater or with other consequences if this guy has a history.

I agree with this. On the replays, it looks to me like Darius is surprised when he hits Ferguson’s helmet. He jumps, makes contact, and immediately after his arm hits Ferguson you see his head turn back toward the play. That’s not the normal motion when you make a tackle - normally you wrap your arms and just keep driving. I think Darius was surprised that he clotheslined the receiver.

That said, it’s still a dangerous play. The personal foul, ejection, and the imminent fine from the league are all correct responses to something like that. I don’t think he should be suspended, though.

No video i know of, but here’s a photo:

*On the field, it looked serious, and it still is serious, Sherman said. He gained movement in his lower extremities, which he didn’t have when he left the building, so that’s good news.

Ferguson was taken by ambulance to Bellin Hospital to have his head and neck X-rayed. The Packers issued a statement late Sunday night that said Ferguson has a sprained neck, but movement and sensation in all four extremities. He was resting comfortably but was kept overnight for observation.*
