…yep. I’ve agreed with the octopus twice in one thread Tomorrow comes the apocalypse.
I am calling it an attack on my wife, my relationship, and my integrity *at the time. *. If you do not understand that, it’s OK, I’m not here to answer or justify my feelings to you. I just want to make the record absolutely clear that Guin did not hint she was using a rhetorical device until *after *I had already made the offending post. I want to make this absolutely clear.
Thanks.
(bolding mine)
Yes, this is correct.
What’s common in your culture, may not be common in mine. I have heard the expression before, but I’ll freely admit, I didn’t know that it meant something other than the insinuation of being an wife beater. Not everyone has the same frame of reference. For example, when I first joined the board, I was mod-noted for saying “Negro, please” because the staff member thought I was using a racial slur. But in our culture, it loosely translates to something like “You crazy,” or in full white speak “C’mon now, my esteemed brother, surely you jest”. Not everyone has the same frame of reference.
So, I agree, and obviously you’re not a jerk or moron or anything for not knowing the phrase.
But you went the fuck off on Guin in a pretty nasty way. Now that you know she wasn’t going off on you in anything near as nasty a way, wouldn’t a sincere “Holy shit, I am so sorry” be in order?
:smack: Basically, correcting a freaking typo means I’m serious. Oy.
Again, I did no such thing*. It is not our fault you were unfamiliar with an extremely common logical trap. However, why would it be somehow verboten to attack your wife, yet perfectly fine for YOU to attack the wives and children of others? :dubious:
As for the “Huey’s not really black”, I said once, a throw a way comment, something like I wouldn’t be surprised if Huey was just some white conservative, pretending to be black to troll the place. Because you know, this place has a history of that sort of thing. (People pretending to be someone they’re not for various reasons) It wasn’t about Huey or black people, or whatever. It’s just the nature of the place, and the nature of the internet. It’s happened to posters who’ve come here before, and it’ll probably happen to posters in the future. It has nothing to do with Huey being black, as once again, I’ve pointed out.
*Seriously, you’ve never heard that cliche? It’s so freaking old, how could anyone be on the internet nowadays and NOT have heard that? It’s not about anyone’s “culture”, unless you consider logic and debating to be a culture. That just blows my mind. Don’t you ever watch shows like Law & Order? They use those kinds of loaded questions all the time!
It’s a fair cop. Guin, if you were offended, I apologize. As I stated before in the Pit thread, I have endeavored to leave you alone. Also, despite what others may be saying, I was not stalking you, I honestly guessed you were depressed a few weeks ago (when I called compared you to Shodan) in this post and, when you confirmed that you did suffer from depression it in a follow-up post, I used that information as a springboard to retaliate after I felt you attacked my marriage. There is no stalking on my part. I just want to make that point clear.
Thanks
Sounds good. Let me answer your question for the sake of clarity. I thought you were suggesting that posters be discouraged from questioning the accuracy of claims made by other posters regarding their RL ethnicity. You noted that such questions (in the pit) are hurtful. I think that’s unfortunate - seriously! But the alternative would open us up to a wave of trolling by racist RW white males.
Broader discussions are good though.
Cool.
Not cool.
Respectfully, this represents a quite specific worldview. Your reality is not necessarily others’. You might be surprised by how many people have never ever watched the same shows, browsed the same websites, or lived the same life experiences as you.
.
What I think is hilarious is that you never stop banging on about how smart you are, but you weren’t able to work this out from context.
Good point. It’s hilarious watching Huey feign high dudgeon because he (allegedly) thought Guinastasia attacked his wife, when he attacks other people’s wives all the goddamn time!
And then he has the gall to come into this thread to whine about hypocrisy. He truly is an excellent troll.
Agreed.
