Day 1 of irk experience (really makes me feel like a 15 year old, I wish they’d at least call it an industry placement or summink). I did have to get up an hour earlier than normal to get there, but that does not explain why I was so completely exhausted when I arrived that I honestly could have fallen asleep standing up. It was like the jetlag I got flying to Australia. Went to bed early and slept fine last night, plus I also got up that time Sunday in preperation. Also felt OK by hometime. Weird, and I hope it doesn’t happen again tomorrow…
Other’n that, t’was fun, it’s a really interesting place. Did sciencing. Wore a lab coat 'n everything.
Ruble, did ya remember to try all the pairs on? My Dad tried buying multiple pairs of shoes he liked once. When the first pair wore out, he smugly got the next pair out, only to discover that the box- labelled as the same size on the box- actually contained shoes at least 1 size smaller. Waaay too late to return…
Shady, I’m with you, not a big fan of ice in my drinks (especially since they tend to load up on ice and keep the amount of beverage to a minimum). It’s cold enough for me coming right from the fountain, so I get my money’s worth.
LA John (I have got to get a list of all the occasional MMP’ers names someday), you are a good person and the hummingbirds of the neighborhood would thank you, if they could talk, which they can’t because they are hummingbirds with brings the size of a pea).
Juliet, so low n sleep and a wet and (probably) sore knee? Moanday indeed.
Nut, I’ve had the same experience at times of having had enough rest but feeling like I could fall asleep while standing. I put it down to “human biology is weird.”
Lunch has been consumed and a fair amount of book reading completed. Contemplating nappage but probably too late in the day to do that. Will need to check the mail here in a bit. Lawn Mower had a few problems which have been fixed so I’ll be picking it up tomorrow.
I was self-destructing while constructing over the weekend. Installed a couple of automagical door openers in our garage. The result is that A) my wife and daughter don’t have to get out in the rain/cold/blazing sun to open the garage door. and B) I have numerous new scratches and skinned shins. The instructions said “If you don’t have a ladder tall enough you will need help hanging the door opener”. Of course I have a ladder tall enough! I just have no idea where it is, it hasn’t made it to the new digs yet. So instead, I used 2 ladders that weren’t quite tall enough, stood with one foot on each, lifted the opener motor into place with one hand, and installed the hanger bolt and nut with the other while an old, rusty nail poking through one of the rafters poked me furiously in the shoulder. That at least explains the scratches on my shoulder. And explains to the dear reader my penchant to “Do it anyway!”. And why my wife doesn’t watch me when I’m constructin’.
Swampy, you should whip up chocolate puddin’ for dessert and explain that the church let you bring home leftovers! Bonus points if you add miniature Tootsie Rolls to the puddin’.
holy f–k geico is ruthlessly efficient …… the car accident is settled and a check will be here in a couple of hours and tiitle will be handed over ……. only took 7 hours total …
We filed the claim online about 8 pm last night they called at 8 am this morning and by 1 pm it was all signed and such …… and aunt actually would of received more than she paid for it but for the 500 deductible ….
I remember when these things took days and or weeks … sometimes months even
Juliet, I hope you don’t get too sore from your fall.
I worked in the studio, did two loads of laundry, vaccuumed, did some mending and made a pot of French lentil soup today. I didn’t get to the dealership, instead opting to stay in my jammies.
Howdy Y’all! Sup has been ingested and the kitchen is all cleanded up. Chillage ensues.
Doc we could be BFFs. The septic filters did not contain any poop, or at least appreciable chunks. Heck, it took longer just about to take the top off both covers (each cover is held in place by six long phillip’s haid screws) and put the tops back on than it did to reach in yank out the filters, hose 'em down, and place 'em back. The grease filter thing was just as easy. Hope the wounds heal easy.
Shades I know! I filed a claim for damage to my privacy fence the day after the hurricane hit last October. Two days later a claims adjuster was here and a day after that I had a check. In olden times (before teh intartoobz) I may have still been dealin’ with it all.
Johnny I am completely bamboozled by all 'lectrical stuff. You are not alone. Also good on you re the hummingbird feeder. Need to keep 'em fed. Hummingbirds may be small but they are vicious!
Nut sleepiness aside, glad the irk experience seems to be goin’ well.
Well, we ended up paying $79.50 for the guy to come in, look at our fridge for 5 minutes, and decide it couldn’t be fixed. Our landlord, Dan, thinks it can be fixed, though, so we paid to get a replacement part, and he’ll try to fix it himself when it gets here. I hope this isn’t throwing good money after bad.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, I plopped down on the couch a little too hard yesterday and heard a crack noise as the thing slumped down. Still using it, but it’s noticeably lower than it had been. Grr.
Taking a break from Roxy - she’s kept me busy since I got home. Right now she’s standing by her gate shrieking at me - not mad, just noisy.
The appraiser came by today, as did a woman from the county, who said we were planning to put our bldg too close to our drain field, so **FCD **moved it enough to get her blessing. Now he has to take modified plans to the county offices tomorrow so we can get our permit. Sheesh, what a fiasco!
Daughter and SIL should be home in about an hour - dunno if Roxy will be asleep then or not. She’s still full of piss and vinegar!
Shades, swampy, Geico has helped me out and has kept my rates low (helps that I haven’t had a car claim, but they did just as well on some home damage last year).
FCM, you know that Roxy will drop off to sleep just before daughter and SIL get home and they’ll think she’s been a complete darling all the time…and no job is finished (or even started) until the proper paperwork is done…
TB, hang in there. Things will start getting better, you’re home now.
Doc, ouch and hope your tetanus shot is up to date.
Johnny, Flipper, I know nothing about electrical stuff except to plug stuff in and where the breaker box is. If that doesn’t solve it, I’m helpless. Hope you get a working fridge soon Flipper.
A pretty slow afternoon, did get a call from the lawn mower people and I can pick it up tomorrow. Turns out only one of the wheels that turns when I engage the control was working, so I got that and a couple of other things fixed, so the bill will be around $175. Pricey, but still cheaper than buying a new mower, so I’ll keep this one working.
BLT’s were consumed for dinner and internettin’ will occupy the balance of the evening.
FINALLY, after signing the contract back in JUNE OF 2018 and making payments on the home equity loan since that time, the contractor pretty much demo’d the master bathroom, stripped almost down to the studs, a couple of places left to go, Mrs. White relayed that when they were pulling out the 1969 bathtub, the whole house shook as they slammed that thing and cut into it…
I got home, they were clearing the damage, the contractor took me to the front of the house, pointed out by the front porch at our snow covered yard, he asked, “There’s a walkway to the front, right?”, um, yes, there is, I generally never snow blow it as we come through the garage or up the back porch, he asked, “Can you clear the walkway and enough of the snow bank so we can back in the truck to unload the backer board and sheet rock?”, sure, of course, and it wasn’t the 8 inches of wet melting snow on the walkway that was a problem, it was the freaking 3 foot melting, ice-caked snow banks at the edge of the yard that was a bear…fortunately, I told Mrs. White last year that I was buying me a top-of-the-line big nasty snowblower that will see me into retirement, that thing is a beast, it was a workout, but only took about 30 minutes…and other than the normal back pain, no injuries!
Yeppers; sure did. Got burned like that on some clearance Adidas once. I’m also careful about “updated versions”. My original Jungle-shoes were a certain New Balance; I ran out and snagged a couple pairs at the New Balance store. My big toe felt like it wanted shot off to put it out of its pain. I had the “new improved version” which “totally sucked on my feet”.
Explosives. Its always explosives. Given your screen-name I would have thought you knew that.
As of tonight we still have volume heading for Maryland; that is subject to change without notice. One TPTB says April and another says in a week or two. Whats the old saying about one hand not knowing what the other hand is doing? And with the hands around here it all ends up a reach-around.
Point well taken, but Mrs. White is a bit cautious about controlled explosions within 40 feet of the house…this was certainly a time that one could have used some solid sodium in those snow banks…
The backpack was found. Whoever took it, went though and took out the Japanese cash but left my IDs and all.
They didn’t even bother taking my charging battery for my cell phone or any of the other things with marginal value. They even left the Taiwanese cash. It wasn’t much, but they left it.
guy came over about 4 with the check and said “dont depositit until tomorrow becausethe money isnt there yet cause it has to go through their system”
thats how fast the whole thing went today…
you know this monsòon were having is going tohave a negative effect by august…the desert blooms are gonna dry out nd be a fire hazard… anyways have a nice night/early morning
As it happened, my SIL’s last class let out early, so they got home just as Roxy was jammie’d and bottled and I was about to walk her back to bed. So daughter got that honor, and I finished a few chores and moseyed to my own bed.
Unfortunately, I woke around 2:30 or so, and I’ve been up ever since. It really hit me on my drive in - gonna be a long day… Forecast to be low 60s - and I’ll be stuck inside for most of it. Maybe I should retire. But the extra money is so nice!
