Don't really own a gun

So I was watching the news and saw they are posting maps of gun owners. Then I heard on the radio that burglars will use the maps to hit homes of non-gun owners.

I’m thinking of getting a carry permit so I can make the list of gun owners to be avoided, without actually gettting a gun that is.

This seems a bit paranoid. I’m not saying that to be judgmental or offend you, but because it seems like it should be verbalized.

I think it was mentioned in a previous thread that burglars might actually target homes with guns, so they can steal the guns.

That was the first thing I thought of when I heard about the map, they’re pointing a finger at everyone that DOESN’T have a gun for protection.

Course, that’s just registered gun owners, right? Ought to be plenty of non-registered weapons in lots of those ‘blank’ homes on the map too. And really big dudes. And archers. And chainsaw jugglers. And baseball bats.

I think a permit in name only would be, err… overkill, but YMMV.

Several people in my carry class rented a gun from the range to perform the shooting portion of the course. A few extra bucks charge over the standard fee. No one asked if they currently owned a gun. The assumption was that they’d buy one latter.

Not sure what the laws are in New York. But here in Ohio, if someone doesn’t have a concealed handgun license (CHL), it does *not *mean they don’t have guns. Lots of handgun owners do not have a CHL. And you don’t need any kind of license or permit to own a rifle or shotgun.

So if a person is *not *on the list, they may – or may not – have a gun in the house. If a person *is *on the list, then there is an almost 100% chance they have guns in the house.

I’ve had a concealed carry permit for 20 years now but have never owned a gun. It wasn’t a big deal to get it and who knows, I may want on someday.

Maps of gun owners homes is not “news”. It’s agenda whoring, irresponsible, and wholly partisan. Organizations that do it should be boycotted.

The only issue having a concealed carry is traffic stops. Cops run you drivers license number. They will see that you have a concealed carry. That could make them really edgy and nervous.

We were told to tell the officer (as you hand over the drivers license) that I have a concealed carry, but I don’t have a weapon on me today. Or, yes I do have a weapon with me. Obviously, you want to say that very slowly with both hands clearly visible on the steering wheel. Look as non threatening and eager to please as possible.

Never surprise a cop with a gun. If he spots it under your shirt or on the floorboards it can get very dangerous. For your own safety let him know there’s something on you or in the car.

I wouldn’t think cops would have much to worry about with concealed carry permit holders. It’s those concealing without a permit they need to worry about.

I wish they’d publish a map of local homes with psycho scary barking dogs, Then no burgler would ever think of breaking into my house…and I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t want to steal my mutts either.

I guess I was a little quick to put words here, of course you don’t have to get a permit to own all kinds of rifles, shotguns and even hanguns. It was just a thought I had, thus in the “Mundane” area.

So don’t rob my house, I gots dogs.
